    New long gun law

taking my 30-30 Marlin out tomorrow morning

just want to re clarify, when transporting in my vehicle, as long as the rifle is in a gun case, hard or soft, it doesn't need a lock?

    right?

It only needs to be in a case going to/from your vehicle. If you're not driving through a school zone it can be sitting in your lap with a full magazine next to it. If you're going to be driving through a school zone it'll need to either be in your trunk or in a locked case if not in the truck or you can access the trunk by folding down a seat.
Oppressors can tyrannize only when they achieve a standing army, an enslaved press, and a disarmed populace. -- James Madison

The Constitution shall never be construed to authorize Congress to prevent the people of the United States, who are peaceable citizens, from keeping their own arms. -- Samuel Adams, Debates and Proceedings in the Convention of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, 86-87 (Pearce and Hale, eds., Boston, 1850)

I thought it had to be in a locked generic container, or could be in an unlocked gun case in a vehicle..?

I always put my unloaded long guns and hand guns in a locked container regardless in the backseat covered with black blanket.

Yes, but you still have the GFSZ to worry about. In a lot of urban and suburban areas it's next to impossible to drive more than a mile or two and not cross 2-3 GFSZs. Rural areas are pretty much the only places you can really do it.
