selling my gun to a buddy in AZ

Question to anyone with knowledge or experience on this topic...

My bud in AZ wants to buy a gun of mine, and I will be driving over and bringing it with me.

Based on the linked info: Link

Dose the form 4473 go to the CA too?

(essentially, is my record of ownership changed by the AZ sale? If not, how to update my CA registration?)

    TIA

If you are a CA resident and your friend is an AZ resident, the transfer has go through an AZ FFL, as required by federal law. Whether you drive there and deliver the gun in person or ship it by UPS doesn't matter. I did this once in Reno, NV, and all I had to bring with me is the gun and my CA driver's license. The FFL has to record in his bound book where the gun came from, so that's why he needs your ID. He can also charge your friend for doing the FFL transfer, which is relatively cheap in AZ, but your friend might ask around to find a dealer who has reasonable rates. Your friend will fill out a federal 4473 form with the dealer and take delivery of the gun. There's no registration or transfer of registration needed. Remember, CA gun laws are not the norm in the rest of the country.

ETA: what kind of gun are you selling and how much ? just curious.

Right, but how does CA.gov know I no longer own the firearm? Dont I get some sort of release from liability? (or is gun reg a federal thing, and the form would cover me regardless what state?)

you fill out this form, http://oag.ca.gov/sites/all/files/ag...46NLIP0209.pdf and send it. CADOJ will update your AFS records to show that you reported that you sold the firearm in question, but they will not delete the listing, just update it with new info.

Do you want an AOW or C&R SBS/SBR in CA?
