has anyone tried this with a pelican case

I got a good deal on a used 1700.I was looking at a Troy m7 case and i got to thinking I'd like to fit all 3 of my ar15's inside. Has anyone been able to fit 3 ar's in a 1700?

This is what I was thinking

I have 3 1700 cases but I find it a little too congested trying to even cram two rifles inside...

Everything I have is wearing optics tho... and I prefer to leave adequate protection on all sides vs trying to get the most out of my case space.

If you want to play with foam thickness and make a custom fit configuration you might be interested in this website...

I re-foamed all my cases with the open cell charcoal firm foam... closely resembles what comes in a factory iM3100 pelican.

With charcoal foam, you get a great appearance and performance. It is versatile, and can be used in a variety of applications including packing, padding, and more.

Are you supposed to cutaway and use the upper foam like that?

Bobs foam Factory quoted me 40 for replacement foam, and 40-50 to cut out everything. so i'm playing with ideas for the case. I've only got a xps2 and i figure i can cut back on mags if i get a acog later and fill the mag spot with the acog but that's probably going to be about it for me as far as optics go. everything fits with about a 1 inch barrier of foam all the way around the case. is that not sufficient enough padding?

Do the labor and cutting yourself... its easy stuff... may not be as pretty as a professional cut foam but I'm not going for looks or trying to impress people, I'm just trying to protect my hardware.

$100-120 bucks shipped to my door got me enough foam for 4 pelican cases (3 1700s and 1 iM3100) along with multiple configurations per case.... I basically ordered more "center pieces" so depending on what Im shooting that day, I can just switch the main layer for whatever I want to pack... plus I can now use the case for more than just gun stuff...

1" barrier around is probably fine but I like to leave a little more, but im still not a fan of packing stuff into the lid layer or floor layer of the case... not sure where the lower receivers would go in that configuration...

I beat the hell out of my cases, so I prefer to give adequate protection and not overstuff the cases also protecting things inside from smashing into themselves with too little foam between internal case objects.
