I just got back from the Bakersfield gunshow. Met a friend at the front door who had just bought a 550 pack of Federel 22 lr. Price was $80.
When I left, there was a guy in the parking lot next to a truck with a sign on the window. "50 rd boxes of 22 lr for $12" I'm not sure it that is a violation of County Ordnance or not. I know it is illegal to do firearms transactions in the parking lot.
However, found a guy selling an AO marked "Inland" M1 Carbine for $650. AO (Auto Ordnance) did not make M1 Carbine receivers for Inland. Theymade them for IBM. So, I looked verrry close and it was an IBM Carbine, with an IBM barrel.
I already had an AO marked IBM, so I told a buddy who had been looking for an M1 Carbine, and he went over and snatched it up for $600. He stole it.
There was a guy across the building selling an IBM Carbine, in identical shape for $1100.
I ran across a guy trying to sell a Polytech M14.................with a functioning USGI flash hider still mounted. I told him he had an Assault weapon by definition, and was subject to arrest. He said it was "preban", to which I said, "That refered to the federal law, which had expired. But this was California, and he could get arrested". He then wanted to know if anyone would say anything to him, since nobody had ever said anything to him before". I just asked him if he wanted to take a chance? Then he wanted to cut off the bayonet lug to make it legal. He was asking $1800, since Springfields were going for $2000+.
I also spotted a commercially made Santa Barbara Mauser that had been barreled in 6mm, then either parked or bead blasted and blued, in a fiberglass stock, with a Leapers scope and it was priced at $900 and marked "Custom Gun".
