Question about hand gun factory return

I feel like I'm getting waiting for this S&W 22A to come back from the factory due to a cracked frame. Now the factory rep said they needed my FFL info so they can send them my gun. Instead of inscribing my serial # from my old frame to the new and just sending back my fixed gun. The factory is sending a gun with a new frame and different serial #.

My question is will I have to pay for a new DOJ background check and 10 day wait? Or does the factory send backup paper indicating the old frame was destroyed and a new frame used and can the DOJ just be notified and me and my crappy frame cracking prone S&W be on my marry way?
By the way if you are considering buying one of these, be warned the frames crack. To bad the reviews didn't say anything about this DEFECT!

When Ruger replaced my SR22 with a new pistol I had to pay the new DROS but there is an exemption for the 10 day wait for a warranty replacement. Ruger reimbursed me for the cost of the second DROS.

Thanks for the reply. That sounds better then the 10 sentence in somebody's safe. Well see what S&W does about the DROS.

I had to specifically bring up the extra DROS during my conversation with Ruger so don't just expect S&W to pony up the money.

I had to send Ruger the receipt from my FFL after the fact to verify what it cost.

I just remembered that some have posted on here that their FFL made them wait the 10days on their warranty return even though it's not required so YMMV.

I had to send my Para to them for FTE, they sent me the shipping label and FedEx sent additional paper. Para repaired and shipped back to me directly via FedEx. No FFL, Dros, nothing. Their guns are warranties for life.

The difference is that you received your original pistol back and not a replacement like the OP and myself.

Para had to replace my wife's Carry9 under warranty and while they didn't pay for the second DROS, they sent me a bunch of extra magazines and a spare recoil spring assembly that more then made up for the cost.

I must say that I was VERY pleased with the service I received from both Para and Ruger.

The factory would need to file paperwork with the BATFE to let them know that serial was reissued and the original frame was destroyed. Maybe they think it's too much of a hassle.

                You nailed it.

It is easier for the manufacturer to just pay the second DROS for the few states that require it. Most states they can simply ship a replacement pistol directly to the owner with no additional DROS involved as long as it is the same make/model.
