Hoppes 9 versus ammonia
Collapse

If I were to use an ammonia solution (that isn't Hoppes or Sweets): right after the ammonia solution, I'd flush the barrel with water, then water displacing oil, and finally I'd coat the barrel with a light layer of oil. The water is extra insurance that no ammonium salts are left in the barrel. Btw, when the OP mentioned ammonia, I immediately thought of a >25% ammonia solution. However, most household and commercial applications are 5-10% ammonia, which is fine. My bad.Comment
