    Ar-Barrel Installation

can anyone walk me through the steps of installing the barrel?
Is there a special tool needed to get a proper torque value?
Do i need to use locktight or any thread sealer? Dry? Light oil?

So far, I got some soft vice jaw inserts but thats about as far as ive got.

tried to do a search on here but got 5 pages of threads that didnt really apply to my question.

Well, this won't be a walk through, but hopefully it'll help some.

You need a barrel wrench and an upper clamp (if you don't want to scratch up anything). You'll also need some grease for the barrel nut threads. Do not use loctite on the barrel. First, clamp the upper solidly in the vice using the clamp. Put the barrel in the upper, you can use a little bit of grease on the barrel extension if you wish. The index pin should fit in the notch in the upper receiver. Check to make sure the barrel is actually centered correctly (just in case the index pin was off centered to begin with). Put some grease on the threads of the upper, and then slip the barrel nut over the barrel. Thread the barrel nut to the upper with your hands. Take the wrench, tighten and loosen the barrel nut three times to mate the threads of the upper and nut together. Finally, tighten the nut anywhere from 30 ftlbs to 80 ftlbs (iirc). It would be difficult to over tighten the nut using just hand strength. If you have a torque wrench, you can set the exact torque. That's it, I think. It is a straightforward and simple procedure. Good luck!
