    Buying a rifle from gunbroker.com

What happens if I buy a rifle from out of state on gunbroker.com that in Cali needs a bullet button. Can I have the seller send it to an FFL in Cali and can they install the Bullet Button? Or, do I need it installed before it's sent?

FYI - I tried to search on this, but the results didn't help.

    TIA

I recently bought an M&P10 from Gunbroker.com and had similar questions.

My M&P10 was already configured for Cali and I didn't have to worry about anything, but was curious if I was in a situation similar to yours.

My understanding is that it must be shipped into the State already legal. Period.

BUT!!! If you are able to convince a seller from out of State to ship the firearm to your FFL without California configurations and your FFL is comfortable is okay with accepting it and installing the required hardware... then no harm, no foul!

But that's a lot of "If's"... Good luck!

You might have to go through a middleman FFL in another state that will install it for you (fees involved of course) and then ship to a Cali FFL. Not 100% sure though, I'm sure more knowledgeable members will chime in shortly.

Wrong. If that FFL is not licensed to handle AWs then they have a problem.
The mod needs to be done prior to the weapon entering the state.

So I could have it shipped to an AW FFL in Cali and they could perform the updates? That sound right?

Otherwise, It needs to be updated before being sent here. Right?

Maybe I'm wrong, but you could have the seller take the rifle apart and have him ship "parts" to your FFL and then assemble with bullet button installed... I can't see why that would not be legal, but I'm not a expert...

Needs to ship CA legal. Make sure.you buy from a FFL dealer. The FFL here in Cali won't take a gun from private party unless they ship thru a FFL. More fees.
Been gone too long. It's been 15 to 20 years since i had to shelf my guns. Those early years sucked.

Email the seller and ask if he's willing to install BB prior to shipping. Done it before just make sure you get the parts back and the mags disassembled.

                FFLs/Store I support and recommend:
Don at Straightline Tactical in Anaheim
Steve at OC Firearms in Fountain Valley.
