    DROS fee...$35?

    Hi all:

I have been scouring the forum and the internet for this answer but have yet to find a clear answer. I DROS'd a brand new firearm today and the charge for the DROS fee was $35. I asked and was told that was their store policy (it was not Turners). I let it go because the gun was priced well. Has anyone come across this before and it is legal? I've never heard or seen of this, so was just wondering.

    Thanks!

All my DROS have been $25 for store guns and $35 for PPT. Only time I got out of the fee was when I purchased three guns at once. The store ate the cost as a way of giving a small discount.

Yes, it was a new store gun so I assumed it would be $25 as well. All my past purchases have been that way too.

Depends on what you mean by 'DROS fees'.

Colloquial usage is 'cost to me over and above the actual cost of the gun and tax'. That's too general.

          State says
17 What fees can I charge in addition to the DROS?

In addition to the State's $19.00 DROS fee, you must also charge a $1.00 Firearms Safety Testing fee and a $5.00 Safety and Enforcement fee.

If the transaction being processed is a dealer sale, consignment return, or return from pawn, you may impose other charges as long as this amount is clearly shown as a "dealer fee" and not misrepresented as a State fee.
$25 to the State is mandatory for the first gun.

Dealers may charge whatever dealer fee they care to, so long as it is listed as a dealer fee.

PPT Dealer fee is limited by statute to $10.

If you regularly get just a simple charge of $25 for state fees, You Are Getting A Deal.

Brand new gun from LGS or PPT? If not a PPT, you are being overcharged.

Turners charges a $5.00 "Dealer fee" over the DROS cost, and B&B Guns used to charge a $10 "Dealer fee" over the DROS cost - that's is/was on guns from THEIR store inventory. Rubs me the wrong way, but it's legal.

Most don't charge a "dealer fee" when you are buying a gun from their stock inventory or ordering it for you, out of the respect that we are all paying too much in taxes and fees anyway; they are grateful that they are getting paying customers at all in this bad economy.

I wish Turners would respect the same, but like they would care? They have lines out the door and back-logged on orders!!

If some level of government had that information, what would they do with it? How would having that info benefit public safety? How would it benefit law enforcement?
