Help with PPT, not sure if this is possible.

I have done a PPT before but this one has some difficulties with it, I searched the wiki but couldn't find what I needed so I'm hoping my fellow calgunners can help.
First the back ground, my dad's coworker is selling a 20g shot gun and a survival .22 that were left by an old room mate about 2 years ago. The coworker how ever is a felon so he stored the firearms at his brother's place and just let them side there collecting dust since he cant use them or have them. His brother is now moving and my dad's coworker now has to get rid of these firearms and wants me to have them, how can I get them transferred into my name when the person they were last DROSed to is no longer around and the person needing to get rid of them so he won't have them in his possession is a felon? Not trying to do anything shady just don't want the the guy getting in trouble for having them and don't want to see two perfectly good firearms get destroyed.

Well......the DOJ really has no idea who bought the guns originally. As long as the guns don't turn up stolen or wanted by the police, the DROS process with your co-worker should happen like normal.

if they are 50+yr old long guns they can be sold cash and carry

or you can go to a FFL and dros them with your coworker that way if they were reported stolen youll find out then rather then months down the road during a traffic stop I am not a lawyer this is just my opinion
Laws that forbid the carrying of arms... disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes... Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man. Jefferson's "Commonplace Book," 1774_1776, quoting from On Crimes and Punishment, by criminologist Cesare Beccaria, 1764

Would he be able to do the transfer being a prohibited person? Would that not flag during the transfer?

A felon shouldn't even have access to a gun so your coworker bring the firearms to PPT is not a good idea.

I would ask your dad's co-worker to have his brother bring them to the FFL to do the transfer.

It's against the law for him to possess the firearms correct?

So you take possession, then the both of you meet at the FFL and do the transfer. The questions on the form are for the buyer, not the seller. It's legal to loan firearms for up to 30 days. I doubt the FFL will ask why you have possession but if he does just say the firearms were loaned to you in order for you to check them out and you decided to buy them.

There is one caveat for consideration. Even though I think the possibility is extremely small you should consider it might turn into a hassle if the firearms were reported stolen by the ex-roommate or a previous owner.
