well my gun beat me up:)

yup, drove out to chabot today. late as usual and only had one firing period, it was actually my first time at chabot, pretty nice place. well anyways i got a box of federal 12 gauge 3" slugs for my 500 and obviously wanted to fire them. I get the shotgun out, unfold the stock and load a single slug. Now i've shot shotguns before, quite a bit. but not with a 3" slug . well it beat the crap out of me, not only was my shot completely high and missed the black, but the gun cut me! The plastic stock gave me a nice big cut right on the side of my cheek. 2" long and a little swollen, i look great. But it makes me a man right ? hell id do it again though! sure is a beast, just a bundle of fun
    Please, calm down.

Yeah, shotguns don't tickle. Even a couple rounds of trap with low base loads will bruise the shoulder. Heal up.

And that my friend is why I choose a semi-auto action. Sure they cost more, but they are a bit more pleasant to shoot, even when firing those very hot 3" magnum slug loads. My Gold may have cost a pretty penny, but I don't feel as lousy after having fired 3 or 4 rounds of skeet/trap/name your clay target game, or after firing an all slug stage at an IPSC 3-gun match (I shot a 20 round slug stage once with 1 ounce full power S&B slugs, let's just say 1400 fps - 20 times..

I've fired those 3" 15 - 00 buck loads from my Mossy 500 and I'll tell you that I will never again fire that load from my Mossy 500.. It just hurts too dang much! I'm going to continue sticking to my gas action Gold TYVM!

Just curious where you are finding 10 gauge slugs. The only place that I knew used to carry them was Ballistic Products, but they don't seem to be on their online catalog anymore.

You are a better man than me. I bought 3 boxes of 2 &3/4in slugs, to zero the rifle sights on the 18in barrel. I fired 5 shots at Chabot, and said "ow". I told myself, it's a shotgun, I dont need to zero it that much.... I took home the other two boxes of slugs untouched.

I haven't touched the slugs since then. I have since then replaced the 870 factory, brick pad, with a better pad, and have a Vang Comp barrel, so I tempted to try the slugs again.

Nice, the top folding stock from ATI that i was using, has no recoil pad at all . its just a flat plastic piece, i tried to convince myself it would be better because its wider and would spread the force out more than the plush 1" pad on the standard stock...pshh...its weird though because i dont even remember the recoil, just the pain in my cheek, then blood...blood everywhere..ahh..i survived though

i dunno.. I shoot mine everytime i go to the range Especially if a take a noobie i make sure to take it as its my rule. "If I take you to the range you have to shoot 15 to 20 shots in a row." Its a nice drive home knowing that when they wake up the next day they will feel it.

i know its petty but its still funny

THAT it is! FUNNY that is! I've done that a time or two with some friend's friends that have done the "I know EVERYTHING there is to know about guns". Had a perverse lil' habbit back in college too of tracking these dweebs down the next day and punching 'em in the shoulder "just" for memory's sake!!!!!!!! LOL! Now I'm nicer, no punching.......and if'n somebody asks I'll even get 'em some ice

the funniest had to have been (Thank God I only loaded one round!-- AND I even warned her!!!!!!) My sister's friend tried a 3" through a buddies Shotgun I had borrowed for the day- After it hit her- and she hit the ground- and the gun went flying.... I too was rolling on the ground laughing sooooooo freakin hard I thought I'd pop my spleen! But I'll be danged if'n she didn't get right back up and try again!!!!!!!!!!! (P.s. Gun was fine.......... ) She got it down but the hamburger the next day that used to be her shoulder was a sight to behold

My 'berg Defender has the pistol grip stock. Any chance that would mitigate some of the recoil from that round?
