Plastic Tapco furniture on ak or OG wood?

Which is better, lighter, and more useful for home defense.

I have some nice plum K-Var that I haven't installed yet.

It's a little lighter than the wood (about an ounce or so for the buttstock). . .

It might be more durable than the wood.

And you can get plastic furniture that has a longer buttstock than stock AK wood. . .

BUT - you can get replacement wood furniture that has a long buttstock too!

I think it boils down to what you like.

There are railed "tactical" fore ends for the AK - I think UTG makes one. Even though it's *cough* airsoft, it has gotten good reviews.

So if you want to mount a flashlight or something - that might be a good choice. . .

My call is to refinish the wood that came with the gun (or the kit) - using my famous "meth red" recipe!!!

        That's about it. . .

If you have Romy wood - that stuff can be made beautiful with a little elbow grease!

Do a search on "meth red" on this site and look at the pics on the last page. . .

EDIT: it does add US parts for your 922(r) parts count (if you use US furniture). . .

But most people can get by with a US receiver, FCG, and MB (and no PG).

just my opinion, but an ak is a bit much for home defense. some thoughts to think about, over penetration. there are a few vids on you tube and it clearly shows a fmj 7.62x39 going through concrete blocks. as for me, i would want to put the intruder down but at the same time not accidentally hit a family member or neighbor. shotguns are great tools of defense. also as stated above, more than likely the police will confiscate your tool of defense. it would be a sad thing to have it taken away from you. but if you do decide on it still, wood vs plastic imo aint much of a major difference. i say go with wood, it just has that classic "this is an AK, so dont mess with me!" look to it

Stick to the wood set. You'll end up going back to it anyways.

That's what I'm gonna do. It's the perfect solution to the problem.

Tapco! I think tdi makes nicer handguards. I would stick with wood especially with a 762. You could buy a east german fiber/plastic set, those are lighter than wood but more fragile.
