    AFG mod for NSR

I wanted to put an AFG2 on my 13.5 NSR but having to add the 1913 picatinny defeats the purpose of a low pro rail which I wanted to maintain. I searched around and found a guy on AR15.com who cut away some of the material on his AFG as well as making his own hardware. I liked the idea so much I decided I would do something similar but better....

1.) Parts: AFG, chicago screw, finish washer(not necessary if you use a shorter cs, and a silencer/rubber washer.

2.) Combine the two halves of your AFG and install the three smaller screws. The main screw and nut that goes between the 1913 slots can be discarded.

3.) I used an electric jig saw to cut away majority of the plastic that corresponds with a rail before sanding down the rest until it matched up with the contour of the NSR.

4.) Once sanding is completed, depending on the diameter of your chicago screw, you need to drill the mounting hole inside the AFG beneath the interchangeable grip insert.

5.) Although it may be possible to do with the rail still attached to the rifle, I found it much easier to remove the rail. Fit the female end of your chicago screw with the silencer and place inside your rail in whichever location you want your AFG. the silencer/rubber washer keeps tension on the chicago screw and will prevent any scratching or tarnishing of the finish inside the rail.

6.) Hold the cs in place and attach the AFG with the screw and finish washer if needed.

7.) After the cs is fastened remove the two smaller screws to the rear and loosen the front screw closest to the muzzle. Carefully use a flathead screw driver to pry apart the two halves as you slide in whichever insert you choose for your grip from rear to front. Replace the two rear screws and fasten.

    Conclusion:
The grip turned out better than I had hoped. It is extremely snug and super low profile as intended. Overall the entire project only takes about 30 minutes to do. The best part about this entire grip, I didn't want to butcher an AFG and waste 30 something bucks in the process so I bought a PTS AFG2(airsoft) to try it out first. The quality of polymer may not be as good as the real magpul AFG but I get the same functionality for a fraction of the cost. For $12 it's well worth a try.
