Turner's is for noobs.
If you like waiting in long lines, having to listen to this armchair commando or that "special forces" guy talk about how the 308 makes mushroom clouds compared to the 223 "that is just like a .22LR", stand patiently and politely while being ignored for long periods of time, and having to wait hours for a PPT "while the PPT computer is being fixed, our PPTs are done on a different computer than the regular DROS" ... go right ahead, with all my blessings.

Of all the Turner's I've ever seen, the only one I will go to is the one in Reseda and only during the day. For the most part their staff is competent (at least they were two years ago). I also give them props for hiring a lot of girls who are actually more than somewhat knowledgable about guns. Unfortunately, due to asinine LA law they cannot carry short barrel handguns because apparently, that $800 Seecamp is a "saturday night n*****town special".

The gun stores that I like in the LA area are (in no order):
1. Firepower Inc Monterey Park (just don't mind his rather senile mom on the couch)
2. Turner's Reseda
3. Once a Pawn a Time (but don't ever do an FFL to FFL transfer there)
4. and of course, my own place, Entreprise Arms. We don't have much of a selection though, as we deal primarily in EBR/MBR.

ps: if you own a business or can provide a service, please go to this thread (http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/s...ad.php?t=97200) and add your info to the list that i'm compiling.

...while at it, explain to them that as a licensed store-operating FFL in CA, setting up special times or appointments for PPTs is against the law. They must do a PPT at any time during their normal business operating hours when customers (of any interest) are served. Nor is it legal for them to make you wait just because you are doing a PPT, while they serve any other random interest customers that entered the store after you.

I'm not one to call DOJ on dealers for the above (or for much any other reason either). I simply go elsewhere/find a PPT frinedly dealer. call their corporate office & remind them of the law when you complain. Turner's has been doing this crap on PPTs for several years. When will it end?

It won't end until a customer of theirs, such as yourself, that has been turned away calls the DOJ. If you get turned away and go to another FFL for service, that's good. Then not to follow up and move it up the food chain at DOJ, allows it to continue on.

Not an instore rant, but I got a tip on a gun from a fellow CGN member (thanks!) of a gun at the Turners Reseda store.

I called them up, the nice lady transfers me to the gun department, and it rings, and rings and rings... I finally hang up after 5 minutes. Call back 10 minutes, let the lady know that no one picked up if she could check to see if anyone can answer my question I had. She transfers me over again and ring, ring, ring again.

I finally wait about an hour, hoping the staff was just busy. I'll try one last time before giving up. No such luck, it just rang, rang and rang some more. Makes me wonder how a store stays in business when their main department doesn't even pick up the phone.

Small gripe, and they ended up losing a sale. At least I saved time going back and forth from the gun counter to the cash register and paying $20 for a lock.

Again, as a former employee, I can tell you that, MOST of the cashiers won't do anything other than take your money and transfer calls. MOST gun guys won't do anything other than help you with a gun purchase and D.R.O.S, and MOST don't know how to mount a scope correctly (unless you want to rely on luck, don't have Turners mount them). The same can be said for MOST of the fishing guys helping outside of their area. I capitalized MOST because, some will, most won't.
In terms of the phone ringing endlessly, I will attest that there are times the gun guys get so busy with customers (holidays season) answering the phone is the last priority, not to say its right, I am just saying.

LOL! I thought you said you were in sales. On top of that your holding it against them for an opinion. Maybe they were trying to do you a favor. Once again, just because you drink the weird kool-aid and like the glock so much doesnt mean that the rest of the world thinks its the best gun in the world. There is a glock forum out there that would agree with you 125% that they are gods gift to humanity however.
P.S. I used to be a glock fan also until I met some of the uber glock weirdos. Then I realized how retarded it is to me worship one gun.

To the OP. That really sucks that they wouldnt do a PPT for you. You did say that the other two Turners gave you no problem and that they did it right away. Why dont you just go to those two instead of avoiding turners all together? You should complain to corporate, those complains go farther than you guys might think.

After abut 20 minutes of what I saw, tells the guy behind the counter, I'll take this(I didn't see which one). Guy behind the counter ask are you sure, customer says "yeah, I'll take it." From what I could pick up the piece was not at the store, but on their inventory list. So the employee begins the whole process, of confirming inventory and begins the DROS, guy starts filling out all paperwork, then when the employee ask, "are you gonna pay for it n full or leave a depsoit?". The Customer tells him, "I have to go ask my Mom for the money, if she gives it to me, can I come back in a day or two?.

The employee told him yeah. The guy leaves and the employee has this look on his face like WTF, He tells the other guys and me. I asked him at least 4 times if he was ready to purchase today.

The worst part to me, was the guy looked to be in his mid-late 20's.

Ha, let me go ask my mom, LMAO.

Guy must have took up around an hour of the employees time.

I obviously did no pay attention in high school. Goes on to tell me he wants to buy a revolver because he baretta 9mm keeps jamming. After about 20 minutes of wasting my time he leaves. He comes back two days later and starts fingering handguns again and wastes over a half hour of another salesmans time. Then wants a magazine for his barretta, after telling him the price he responds, "thats alot for a c02 capsule."
His fricken 9mm barretta that was jamming all the time was a 177 pellet pistol!

I love the people who wonder in from El Torrito next door. One lady was shaking her head at the animal heads on the wall and kept telling one of my co-workers "inhumane! Thats SO inhuman! having animal skins on the wall. So inhuman!!"
His response was, "your absolutely right ma'am. VERY inhumane... nice leather jacket."


Thanks for the support. I am the hispanic man with thick black glasses. I wont be there much longer though and we try our best to help customers. We never turn down a PPT unless our computer system is truly down which *keeps fingers crossed* hasnt been down for quite a while. We have different guys who know different stuff. We have a kid there named Ryan who could probably take metal tubing, a hand full of change and a rubber band and make an AK. He knows all kind of stuff about OLLs. We have one guy there named Rich who knows all kinds of cool stuff about surplus rifles and military paraphernalia. The rest of us there aside from one or two others know our way around what we carry very well and are very friendly and helpful. I admit there are times I may be less than friendly but after being hammered all day by jackholes like the one I described. I apologies if Im not all happy. Not tooting my own horn but the reason most co-workers use me as a go-to guy is because I'm the only one dumb enough to stick around for about four years lol. about two weeks left and I wont be there for a while.

Anyone with such thinking is a fool. They lose much more than time on paperwork & they do lose commission; they lose immediate additional sales on ammo, accessories, & in with me, a gun purchase from their store inventory. Think about it: I'm in the gun store & someone just paid me several hundred cash for a gun... again, I'm in a gun store. Cash is in my pocket. It doesn't take much to figure it out that before I leave a little of that money will be spread around. It's rare when I don't buy a gun from the very same dealer who also happens to be processing the PPT for me, whether I'm buying or selling. I hate multiple trips especially at today's gas prices. I'll pay more for ammo at Truners if I'm already there than to run 14 miles across town just to save a couple of bucks at Ammo Bros. If I plan on buying a new gun soon, or need ammo, I'll correlate my trip to the gun store for doing a PPT too. Even if I don't buy something the day I do the PPT, the friendly service I get then will make me want to return to the store for toher gun items or guns. Think about that one Turner's reps: PPTs lead to foot-traffic from gun-enthusiasts in the store, your "target" audience which undoubtedly will lead to additional sales. What? You prefer walk-ins that will gawk at the trophies on the wall and repeat "inhumane" over and over, or those who confuse magazines with CO2 cartridges, both examples of those who will never buy anything substantial at Turner's? PPTs bring in the money ten-fold. Being adverse to PPT customers is a huge self-inflicted injury.

This happened to me the other day....

A young man 21-25ish came in and said he wanted to build a EBR. Told me what he was looking for and parts/brands ect. And I said it would be about $1150.00

After talking to him for a minute I realized he was new to this and some of the stuff he wanted he "heard" was good. But I took the time to explain the details to him. So he could make a more edjucated choices. He then pulls out paper and quotes/prices from all kinds of other shops/online stores out of a folder and a calculator and proceeds to tell me everyone elses prices on stuff.

I stand behind my fair quote of $1150.00 and he told me he has about $800 to work with. I told him I could build one for less but it wouldn't have the Magpul/CMMG stuff he wanted. He goes back to his "best price" list and starts add them up on his calculator. His total came to $1140.00

Its been over an hour now and he tells me he wants to do it but has to call his mom to see if she will give him the money.

He goes outside to make a call. Stands out there for about 10 minutes and just leaves without saying anything. I guess she said no.

This whole thing didn't bother me. I don't make commission so I didn't lose anything. Just thought it would of been nice if he thanked me for my time or something. He seemed like a nice guy. Hopefully he will come back some day.
