    sent to HD for a step stool came back with

    a simple field expedient shooting bench and seat {dual purpose}

    bought the 2 step one for the rifle rest, added some old foam insulation w/ 3M rubber tape i had laying around

    and the single step one as a seat

    i have one of those flat plastic folding steps too but i keep that in another vehicle so i figured for $2 more i have another step/seat that matches the rifle rest one. about $30 total.

    the day before at HD i bought an 18 gal rubbermaid tub, filled it with 2.5 bags of red rubber mulch to use as a bullet trap, no pictures of that though. need to cut some wood to fit in front to staple targets to and a way to secure the lid, may use some straps or something because the rubber tends to jump up and out. my prototype cardboard box worked pretty well to stop handgun, .22 lr out of a rifle, and my lead .300 whisper loads out to about 50+ yards. trying to save lead so i can cast more.

    dead 86 suzuki samurai in background, anyone know a good samurai mechanic? i think i need to rebuild the carb and install a new accelerator cable.

    Huh.

    I've got one of those stepladders, the 2-step one. Never thought of using it for that ... I think I like it.

    As far as your Samurai goes, do it yourself. It's pretty simple to work on one of those. Call Import Parts Specialists in Boise for parts - 1-800-897-7278, talk to Rick. I've been buying parts from them for ... 15? 16 years? Something like that. Best people to deal with ever.

      you could use a crate w/ a seat pad for the seat, i am short so the setup fits me pretty well. I got the idea from seeing somone using a short a frame ladder w/ pads as a front rifle rest. lighter and cheaper and handier than a store bought shooting bench. thanks Peter.Steele for the sammy tip. i have dealt w/ them before, i think i got my larger capacity alternator from them; but they only have redline Weber carbs. lots of sammy parts up in ID though.
