No law against it at all, you don't need to take the bolt out either.

Is it smart? I wouldn't do it. The only storage laws are regarding kids having access and injuring/killing someone with it(it's in the cgf wiki if you want to look it up).

So your not worried about your house being broken into and your firearms getting into the hands of someone other than yourself? Times have changed, leaving guns out in my personal opinion is foolish. But hey, it is your right to do it if you wish.

If you want to display them, why not take an unused closet or a small "bonus room" and reinforce it, add some lighting, a seperate alarm and a solid door with heavy duty lock? Not as secure as a safe, but a great way to be able to show your collection to friends and still keep a reasonable amount of security. I know I plan to do something similar in my next home.

Even keeping guns locked up in a safe isn't necessarily going to stop a burglar from getting your guns.

However, having them on display out in the open so the cable guy, plumber, friends of friends, random family members, etc. can see them just adds to the potential for a burglar to learn about your place as a target.

I would only hang guns on the wall of my walk-in gun safe (if I had one).

Any person who has seen them hanging on the wall becomes a potential suspect in the event of a theft.

I guess you're right, I have all other guns locked up in safe but those two are so nice to look at...oh well

I'm going to hang my Garand on the wall in my game room when I get around to creating the WWII theme in there. I'm going to have some bomber nose art panels and other graphics painted on the walls too. Maybe Ike's D-day speech or something.

Lock them up when you're away, and when you want to admire them pull them out of the safe.

Then they are easier to get to for happy-fun range time too. Cause those are too good not to shoot too!

When I displayed a Mosin with this mannequin, I got a replacement firing pin and cut the tip off of it so it was inoperable. I no longer display anything so that FP is unused at the moment. If you're interested, make me an offer

I always wanted to mount something above my fireplace, but was concerned with the legality, liability, etc, so I got a replica Model 66 "Yellowboy" from http://www.replicagunsdirect.com. Looks great and I don't have to worry about a real gun getting into the wrong hands. They're not the cheapest replicas in the world, but it beats losing the real deal.
