I had ~12 long guns and handguns stolen from my apartment today. Had the police come by and do a report. Turning a list of what was stolen later tonight. What should I do now? Is there anything I can do other than hope. Most of them were C&R long guns which I have the serial numbers on file for.

does it matter if it was in a safe or not? a safe just keeps a honest man honest nothing more
OP I hope you get all your guns back and there is not much else you can do other than hope and pray they are returned shortly .....Laws that forbid the carrying of arms... disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes... Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man. Sorry to hear that. My apartment too was broken into when I lived in Tucson. I lost everything except they left my shotgun.
They caught the guy that did my burglary. Stay strong. The guy that did this will get what's coming to him. Do you have renter's insurance?Comment

I was going to go buy a safe in two days. They were locked with cable locks but not in a safe. It is interesting they left the new stuff but took the c&rs. Same goes with the ammo. I have renter's insurance, but since my parents set it up for me (still a dependent) they didn't include the firearms. So I am straight out luck on that relm I fear.Comment

He couldn't afford a safe after buying 12 guns..Originally posted by SigSour5888Were they in a safe?
And to the OP, you make your own luck and while even someone with a safe can be robbed, at least they did all they could to keep criminal from getting new tools for thier trade.
Start buying guns, then buy a safe soon in the hobby.. I just consider it the right and responsible thing to do.
Ultimately it's the thieves fault that they are scum.. but like the guy leaving the keys in his car, you didn't help matters.Member: Patron member NRA, lifetime member SAF, CRPAOriginally posted by tony270It's easy to be a keyboard warrior, you would melt like wax in front of me, you wouldn't be able to move your lips.Comment

While no safe can give 100% security, a half way decent safe will keep out the vast majority or your run-of-the-mill burglars looking for a quick score. Most of them don't want to spend the time or effort to get into a safe.Comment

Yes, it does matter. A bolted down gun safe will deter most burglars. Contrary to what you remember seeing in Hollywood movies, most burglars don't have the the expertise to crack a gun safe. The ones who do have the expertise don't break into apartments to steal guns that can be easily traced back to them; they break into mansions and steal art, jewelry and cash.
If I would be the OP I would try to remember the name of every person he talked guns or showed his guns to in the last 30 days.Last edited by tankarian; 03-19-2013, 6:37 PM.BLACK RIFLES MATTER!Comment

I had a safe at my parents house, where I kept some of my guns until recently when I moved. I have been looking for a safe for my new apartment, where I didn't have a safe yet, but like I said have been looking, and was planning on getting one very soon. In retrospect I should have left them there until I had a safe here, but it is not like I did not have one, I just did not have my firearms in it. Stupid mistake yes, due to being cheap, no.Comment

A buddy of mine had his house burglarized...also with no safe.
The thieves took his two revolvers and some small items, but left behind several semi-autos including a Glock.
We guessed they did not know how to operate the autos so they did not take them.
If they only took the C&Rs, then maybe they know these can be sold Cash & Carry.
Hmmm....either smart thieves or a knowledgable gun "buddy" who is not your friend at all.

Thats just one of many stories ive seen online where bolted down safes have been broken into and guns stolen no safe is 100% safe thats my point if a BG wants in guess what ?? he will find a way in ,,,,,,Laws that forbid the carrying of arms... disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes...
