    Public lands to shoot.

Hey guys I live near downtown Sacramento and was wondering if anyone knows where there are some good places to go shooting on public land near here? Any info would be greatly appreciated.

There are several ranges in the area. Not really any public lands to shoot at. You could drive up to the forest but expect to get harassed.

Spenceville comes to mind. It's on private land I believe, but it's usually open to everyone.

BLM is a good bet too.

        I Googled http://www.google.com/search?client=...UTF-8&oe=UTF-8

You can get maps from the BLM website

National Forest land is good too, unless it's closed to shooting for fire season. Get maps, call the local Ranger. Get off the roads.

Virtually the whole state of Nevada is BLM land. Drive East on Highway 50 about 2 hours past Carson City. Lots of land with no buildings of any kind for miles and miles. Find a road to take you a couple of miles off the Highway. Pick up your trash and shot up targets.

I suppose that technically this does not meet the requirement of "Near" Downtown Sacramento....
