    Politically incorrect

A few minutes ago I was reading a thread that started with somebody wearing a holstered weapon during an argument. The person had two handguns confiscated and was cited for brandishing.
Been thinking about it. The more I think on it, the more troubled I become.
To me this illustrates how wussified we have become.
A hundred years ago this was not even close to being an issue. That armed people wore, carried in pockets or over the shoulders was a normal, everyday event. It meant nothing; wearing trousers or shoes meant about the same thing.
Here's my big problem: In an effort to be reasonable these days we frequently resort to calling ourselves law-abiding citizens who do their best to hide the fact we possess and believe, deeply, in the individual right to firearms.
This effort at camouflage sucks. We are Americans. Of all the countries in the world we are the only one that celebrates the individual, institutionalize widespread gun ownership, and protect the individual in our founding documents. We have always punished wrongdoers and evil people. Do wrong and we either kill you or put you away for years.
Yet, somehow, we have been cowed by those who do not respect or celebrate being an American.
Somehow it has become stylish to sorta hide who we are, what we are. It is a sad thing. Frankly, it is un-American.
Don't get me wrong. I've no desire to go strutting around with a gun on my hip. But as I look back on the nearly 400 years we have been on this continent, I am stunned by how far we have fallen.

      470,
It should not be different anywhere. We are all Americans. We all possess the same rights, given by God, memorialized by our founders.

        Ehh, I disagree.

If it was one neighbor talking to another neighbor about a dog barking all night and both happened to be armed as a normal course of their lives, say being farmers, then that would be nothing.

In this instance, an angry man armed himself and approached correctional officers running a convict work crew and demanded they move the crew.
Now he has a right to be angry because the convicts were talking smack to his daughter but being angry and arming yourself to complain is just plain stupid.

Frankly an angry armed man coming up on me puts me in the state of mind of is this guy going to try and kill me or am I going to have to kill him right back?

I think his daughter is lucky to still have a father because it could of gone bad real fast.

          ^^^^Spin the story much?
War is when your Government tells you who the enemy is......

Revolution is when you figure it out for yourself.

And in your version he would have been no less dangerous had the weapon been concealed. Probably more so as the corrections officer would not have known. What he did was demonstrate a form of power. I bet the corrections officer was much more polite than he would have otherwise been.

Make no mistake violence, or the threat of, is a form of power. The exact power the government is trying to take from us and vest unto themselves. Your choice as to why.

You make a compelling argument. But the fact remains we are a wussified nation. Why it should be an unusual thing for an armed civilian to appear upon the streets in any situation is beyond me.
My whole point is we have given in to the anti-gun folks. Why should this be? From our founding into the 1920s it was NOT unusual to see an armed person walking the streets with little notice.
Somehow we have become a nation of people who must apologize for exercizing their most basic rights, and even try to hide and license those rights.

                agree wussies everywhere...

did you read my story about the guy who simply handed another guy a bullet and got the same charge filed on him....

whats next are we going to charge fathers for assault when they clean their rifles in front of their teenaged daughter's boyfriends?

I told my daughter's first boyfriend the first day I saw him, I owned guns, and I am not afraid to go to prison to protect my family....he sorta giggled and said, "ok sir." I replied, "I'm not ****ing joking around kid."

Dunno about "spin" but that's what I got out of the wall of text that was the original unedited post. As none of us here were actually witnesses to the event all we can do is use our best judgement to decipher a third hand re-telling.

Well as he has been accused of brandishing a firearm in a threatening manner it appears he was successful in projecting the threat of violence. I don't think it was needed and I'm sure he is not happy with the results.

Funny how the "boyfriends" always seem come over at the exact same time most dads are cleaning guns.
Never follow the advice of Calguns Addicts,
They clearly don't know what they are talking about.

That's a defeatist's attitude. In the last 400 years this country has done more good for the world than any other country has done during their time in history and America is still far from perfect. Of all kingdoms and empires in history I would not trade my place for anything less than King or Emperor. I am an American citizen, I am my own King. Stop feeling sorry for yourself. Sometimes it takes dumb *** Liberals to remind us not to fall to complacency. No one ever said it would be easy to be an American. Freedom comes at the cost of eternal vigilance.
Politicians should only be allowed one term in office, then one term in jail.

It hurts you think me defeatist. If I am on and participating in this site, does that make me defeatist?
I firmly believe you and me are here, participating, because we are not defeatist. That I can point out our nation has become wussified is not defeatist. It merely reports a thing that IS, sorta like the sun rises in the east.
Maybe we listened to our moms too much. I truly do not know.
What I do know is this country has become a nation of wusses, except for those with hair enough to join the military.

I reread your post. Sorry if you take any offense, I see what what you mean we as a people have fallen to being wussified. And I agree with that. The sad truth is even though this has happened we are still yet a leader in the world. I would not want to be in world where America did not exist and live the life of a subject.

Thank you. Yours is the first post I have ever received saying I might have been right.
Well, we may be wussified but we remain the baddest asses in the world.
The wussification is occuring at home, where folks are trying to take our guns and right to them away.
This bodes ill for our future. But I gotta tell you it means nothing for our immediate future. My youngest son is a sergeant of artillery. He is certified on both our 105 and 155 guns. He is schooled in the American way of war: bring hell from distance.
Certainly, when he has children they will try to emulate him. I know I tried to emulate my dad 40 years ago.
The problem is there are so few alive now who have any reason at all to take America to heart. Our schools, in pursuit of multicultuarlism, do not pay much attention to the value of America.
It's sort of amazing how Internet conversations take off on you. I appologize for the direction this one has taken. But I do not take back one word.
With regard to you and yours,

                              Mike
