    ArmsList

Browsing around looking for firearms, I came across Armslist It's sort of the Craigslist for firearms.

I'm a bit skeptical. No way to read/leave feedback. Seems like a higher chance of being ripped off.

Would you use it? If so, how would you minimize getting ripped off?

Used it one time. Good experience. Found a guy that was selling off a deceased friend's reloading stuff. Turns out he had a lot of Hornady, Speer, and Sierra bullets. Got his phone number, called, and gave him a list of calibers I shoot. He took the time to come up with a list of what he had. We ended up striking a deal on a large purchase for $8 a box. I sent him a USPS MO, and he sent the bullets. No problems.

The potential to be ripped off is always there. Use a CC when you can, or see what kind of rapport you can build through email or phone and try a get a feel for the person you're dealing with.

Yeah it is full of potential. One red flag I found is if the lister has multiple items for sale in different states/cities.

They will also give you a postal address different than the city the item is listed in.

      I took this tip from someone else who ran into issues;

Ask them for a specific photo of the item, on a table, with a spoon and fork, on a piece of cardboard write, dinner is ready.

If they own it, and have not stolen pics from someone else, (common) then they can produce.

That said I have bought smalls from there such as mags and parts, not sure I would trust to purchase > $100

i've used it a few times but browse it daily. sold a 40 cal S&W and one of my AR's. purchased 800 rounds of 9mm and found someone to swap my birdshot for his 22lr. i like browsing the site a lot.

there's always potential to be ripped off. bring a taser and meet in a well lit, busy area for swapping/buying goods. when you PTT a gun, dont see the gun and don't show the cash until you're inside the gun shop.
        I don't own any guns...they're dangerous.

I tried selling some old stuff on Craigslist awhile back.

          1. Wife's wedding dress. Got multiple people trying the "I'll send you a check for over the amount and then I'm supposed send them the dress and cash back for the overage" scam. Still have the stupid dress.

          2. Dude made arrangements to buy a guitar. Says he's bringing $85 cash. A tweaker shows up with $25 cash and a $30 gift card that was probably already drained. Sent him packing.

Calguns Marketplace works fine for me. Craigslist left a bad taste in my mouth.

I have been looking for a SCAR 17 for a while at a decent price. I got an unsolicited e-mail from a "seller" offering a 17 for $3500.00 - $1,000.00 off the current market price. I was suspicious as I did not inquire about one for that price. I asked the "seller" to send his listing and he sent one from Armslist, which I had never seen. The info there on sellers is minimal and the site seems to be set up for fraud. I asked a couple questions, got odd responses, and decided it was a scam. I will be staying away.... a long way from Armslist~!

Armslist is fine for local transactions, but I wouldn't use it for anything other than that

Stay local only means within 20 miles. Great for FTF items. Yeah I have used it and will continue. Cheers.

I found a deal on Armlist that ended with me going to court in Arkansas in order to get my money back. I would only use it to purchase person to person. Lesson learned for me

Just purchased a 1911 from an Oregon seller. Seems to be a stand up guy.

Alright, so Armslist is OK for FTF deals only.

A lot of the things I was looking at (1903A4 and Remington 700's) are out state.

I wonder if there is a way to work out a "C.O.D" system.

                              1) Find item, contact seller with FFL info.
                              2) Seller tells FFL not to release firearm to buyer until paid.
                              3) Give FFL money.
                              4) Paperwork process, 10 day wait...
                              5) FFL sends seller money for purchase of rifle.
