Niether Ca law nor Nevada law requires ammo to be locked up or even seperated from the gun (assuming that the gun is not loaded). Just follow Ca law in Ca and NV law in NV.

        In NV...

It is legal to transport an unloaded firearm in a locked container.

It is legal to open carry a loaded firearm.

If it legal to have a loaded handgun concealed or visible in your vehicle. If the handgun is concealed, it can not be "concealed upon the person". "Concealed upon the person" means concealed on you or in a portable container (purse, bag, case, pack, etc.) near/on you. An exemption to this is the firearm being unloaded and in a locked container.

It is illegal to have a loaded rifle/shotgun in or on your vehicle.

It is illegal to possess a firearm in/on school property, college/university property, child care facility, or a Gov owned/operated building/property.

Private property owner/operator can ask anyone to leave their property for any reason. Failure to leave, can result in a tresspassing citation.

Just make sure all magazines you transport are legal, meaning if you have a regular capacity magazine (as in Hi Cap in CA) do not bring it with you!

Why would you? it doesn't matter if you legally own them, once you cross the stateline it will be a different story! break it down as a kit? then you can't put it back together as it will be called manufacturing right?

If you legally possessed them in CA before 01-01-2000, then you can transport them to other states and legally bring them back. [PC 32420]

                      Penal Code 32420
Section 32310 does not apply to the importation of a large-capacity magazine by a person who lawfully possessed the large-capacity magazine in the state prior to January 1, 2000, lawfully took it out of the state, and is returning to the state with the same large-capacity magazine.
