    reloading lead .45 bullets

    Hi,
I have a load worked up for my gun that uses 185 gr FMJ .45 bullets. It's 5.8 grains of Winchester 231. I wanted to save some money and bought some cast bullets, 185 gr SWC, and thought I can use the same load, but then I wondered if the cast bullets would not tolerate the same powder charge as a jacketed bullet. My question is, when going from a jacketed bullet to a lead bullet of the same weight, should I reduce the powder charge to minimize lead deposits in the barrel? Would the amount of lead fouling be the same whether or not I reduce the powder charge by 1/2 a grain?
    thanks everyone.

You should basically start over when you change bullets.

      I Agree with Josh.

Grab a couple reloading manuals and start over. You could also call the manufacturer of the specific bullets and ask them for load data with 231.

Start low and work it back up from there. Find the "happy spot" for your gun and then load em up in quantity.

        New ingredients = new recipe.

It's best to work them up fresh.

Lead bullets = less friction in the barrel.

What ever bullet you want to use, many times the manufacturer will have safe load data available. Same with the powder you want to use. Check their web sites.

I did 185 gr lead loads. I did them light between 4.6 - 5.0 gr.
It worked for me. I like CLAYS more, but W231 more price efficient
