    Steel target suggestions

I'm looking for an affordable and easy to breakdown reactive target for pistol calibers up to 45 Auto. I looked at a few online and a lot seem to be more complicated than I would want. I'm looking for something in the $50-$100 price range. Any suggestions?

Ah, shoot. I was going to suggest the steel target I have from "Action Target" but it would be about $140 shipped(discounted price). If you have the extra $40 to spare, I highly recommend it. Portable & easy to set up although it is a bit heavy.

Go walk a railroad right-of-way and find a discarded tie plate. They are about 10"x14" and have holes in them for the spikes. I use metal hooks and chains and hang them from t-posts. Paint them white or orange and shoot away. The chains swing and that helps take up the impact so they last a long time. Darned near free.

I had good luck with going to sims metals in san Jose ca. They are in the scrap business and they have an area where they sell good useable metal. I was able to buy some 3/8 or 7/16 plate there for pretty cheap. If you have access to a welder then your good 2 go. I made a sillouete target why the trap door plate on the middle. I lasted for a decent amount of time till my buddy put a 300 win mag through it. I doubled up the center plate and left an air gap between the plates. It will last longer that way.

If you are handy you can make something up for not much money, dont know what you have in mind

Mild steel 1/4" and up will handle any non-magnum pistol rounds. You can find square or round plates at any metal supply. You can even look thru the scrap pile and go real cheap

Pistol use only for mild steel

Any centerfire rifle will blow thru mild steel like butter and for centerfire youll need AR500 steel

I got some from AR500 or ar500targets.. local in OC on here.. Some small zombies and a gong..

I need to set up something with springs so the zombies bounce back up .. the gong I hang from a lantern hanger.. but could rig up anything.

Awesome thanks for the suggestions. I'll try and salvage some scrap metal first.

Here's one you can do really cheap: iron survey stake, spring, bolt, and a steel target (square or round):

                  [IMG][/IMG]

                  [IMG][/IMG]

Or if you want to get creative with a welder and some power tools:

                  [IMG][/IMG]

                  [IMG][/IMG]

That one was so much fun to shoot I upgraded it:

                  [IMG][/IMG]
                  Tire kickers gonna kick,
                  Nose pickers gonna pick
I and others know the real

I can only think of swinging static target options for you. If it helps, wideners had AR500 steel plates for $74.00 recently

If not spring, then how about a zombie billy and zombie bob on the same rod opposite each other...weld a piece of tubing half way between billy and bob perpendicular to the rod...press appropriate size roller bearing in tube...insert appropriate size rod in roller bearing center...now billy and bob alternately present themselves to you after each hit provided you weighted billy correctly so it naturally falls and stays at the bottom until you hit correctly weighted bob and it tips and falls to the bottom...you shoot/hit as fast as they pop up.
I'd rather have it and not need it than to need it and not have it.

Reactive targets? Cans of soda pop.

Get diet pop and they're not sticky when you pick them up and bag them.

Great for shotguns too, just get a friend to shake em up and throw em high!

If you are looking for some nice reactive targets they will run you closer to$150-$200 but that is complete with stands. If you just want some steel that will last you a lifetime check out our website www.socaltargetworks.com Please keep in mind we are the only vendor on Calguns that Laser cuts there targets and anyone who tells you there is no difference has an inferior product.
