There are many topics which can be discussed and reasonable compromises arranged. As I watch the live stream of the Colorado Senate on House Bill 1224 banning "high capacity magazines", its clear to me that gun control is not one of them.
A state senator is discussing how there needs to be reasonable discussion on the balance of civil liberties vs Constitutional rights, thus his support for more gun control. I submit there is no room for compromise, any more then there can be a middle ground between Hamas and the Israeli Parliament, or the space between one side of a coin or the other. When the quarter hits the table you have two sides to pick from, and when it comes to gun control there are the same number of options.
Either you agree that individuals have the right to defend themselves and to keep and bear arms , a right not subject to the regulation of the government.
Or you believe that citizens, ultimately, should be collectively disarmed except select agents of the State. One philosophy cannot exist at the same time as the other, and those who insist it can are as foolish as those who believe today that the Earth is the center of the universe.
I don't ask you to pick the side of the Constitution. We all have the right to believe as we see fit as Americans. I simply ask that you pick a side, and do so honestly.
