Talk to the person you hear your info from. Then Just go buy the 870.

Common problem: unpolished chambers (sticking of 12 gauge shells during ejection phase).

Usually this is with the ammunition's fault itself. As I've experienced this with my 590a1 with cheap Winchester bird loads.

So this is the only draw back to the 870 ? I guess that can be addressed and all will be good !

I just bought a BNIB 870 Police. The gun is broken down in the box so it was easy to look at the chamber and inspect the internals of the gun. There were no burrs or noticeable machine marks whatsoever.

For every problem you hear about an 870, there are 5,000 other units that work without issue. Nobody comes on here and brags how good their pump shotgun works.

Properly taken care of an 870 (or 500 from what ive heard) will outlive you. Just ask my grandfather... wait nevermind.

i've put about 800 rounds through mine in the last two years. only problems i've had were user error. trying to pump too fast during skeet with the gun angled the wrong way so it couldn't get a clean ejection.
                    I don't own any guns...they're dangerous.

man i keep seeing these "my 870 has problems" threads and i'm starting to wonder if i just got really lucky.

although people often fail to consider this:
assuming a high 97% yield on 80,000 units a year (lets say this includes marginally working units people have problems with), that's still a lot of units (2400) that will go bad. more than somebody is going to have a bad time.

with that being said, i hope remington gets it back together. similar reports were rare years ago.

                              870 x 2 = 1740
