Handgun types allowed at Front Sight

Front Sight has guidelines for handguns allowed at their facility. Their website states:

My question is this, would a Kahr PM9, S&W M&P Shield 9mm, or S&W 642 J-frame revolver be allowed there? These are all borderline "pocket carry" pistols.

I am sure the Shield and PM9 should be OK. However, I would still use a bigger handgun to get the most out of their training. They probably set the requirements because of how the training is structured. Bring them and see if they OK it, but, have the FS or compact with you as backup. Better yet, give them a call. If they say no, explain that you depend on these for your life and want the training to better enhance your skills with your carry weapons.

I also emailed the question to their contact address. I'll post the reply when I get it.

I'm pretty sure that the pocket thing is more of a drawing from the pocket . I'm betting that an S&W Airlight drawn from a belt holster is acceptable. Same for the others

Now how would FS think about the opposite end of the pistol spectrum, the AR15 pistols, Dracos and Uzis?

I think they would laugh you off the range, and you would be out a chunk of change.

If you have a hip-holster for your uzi, sure-
No drop-leg holsters though, they say it is a safety/liability issue.
The classes focus on shooting, manipulating and drawing from a concealed holster, so if you have a carry gun, bring it. Bring a coat or top that you would wear to conceal and that can keep you warm in the mornings or in the wind.

Somebody should go to FS with a Desert Eagle in 50AE.

If all Uzi safeties are stiff like on mine, it would be very tough to do a controlled pair from concealment in 1.4 sec... Yup, I'll stick to my Shadow

LCP is allowed, but they told me that is borderline
although, I would not recommend and LCP, due to the sights and trigger travel, I would be highly impressed if someone DG'd with a LCP, i'd be slightly impressed if someone were to simply graduate with an LCP

My wife and I brought Kahr pm40's for about two years, dg'ed with them, took advanced corses with them, even hit targets at 50 yds with them. Was it easy, hell no, but we were training with the guns we carry the most of the time. Not guns that would make it to DG. Hard on the hands, and the guns did not hold up, had to go back to Kahr three times each, but they did stand behind them. Bring about 8 mags as when you are shooting a lot, its a pain to have to constantly reload them.

                      Good luck!
