Norcal - Clean and Shoot in the USFS

If you're in the Sacramento area and want to see some places to shoot in the El Dorado NF (EBR friendly btw), the PLINK cleanup is a great way to find good, safe, places to go plinking that don't require driving out some lonely road. Bring some work gloves, and guns and ammo for shooting after the clean up is done. These are good people who clean up the mess left by inconsiderate shooters.

Tour to clean up Your Eldorado National Forest shooting areas.
Meet us at 9 AM in the parking lot of the Pollock Pines Safeway Market. Take the Sly Park Rd. exit 50, stop, then left under the highway, stop, then left into Safeway. You will not miss the truck with a PLINK sign on it. Just bring your guns and attitude. You will meet some dedicated shooters. PLINK will supply trash bags, tools, gloves, soft drinks, and lunches.

We should be done by 2PM. Two trucks are needed to go to the dump. Others can stay to shoot targets, NOT TREES.

This whole thing is a great idea. I would like to get something going like this in Souther California. Jacumba really needs a good cleanup, granted its the desert, but Mexico is cleaner than that shooting area.

We intend to go shooting at Jacumba on the 15th. As a rule we always pack out more than we bring. I'll bring plenty of trashbags.

I'll be there if at all possible. This is something I believe strongly in and have wanted to get involved in for quite a while now. Thanks for posting it.

There's not a whole lot of driving. Maybe 15-20 minutes to the first place and then 5-10 minutes for each additional place they go to. Depending on big a mess people have left it can take 10 minutes or 30 minutes to clean up an area. Picking up spent brass and shotgun shells, debris, bottles, cans, etc.

4wd handy, but not required. Usually a few of the locals have trucks and will haul everything picked up to the dump.

You don't have to go the whole route. At anytime you can stay where you're at and shoot. Of course then you might miss lunch - usually from Subway. They send someone to get the sandwiches and bring them to one of the designated stops.

Yes, you can just show up. Look for the pickup with a big PLINK sign on it. Go up and introduce yourself. Everyone is real friendly.

They usually pass around the Subway menu before they take off so they have everyone's order (picked up and delivered later on for lunch).

They'll also ask you to put your name on a paper with the approximate mileage on your vehicle when you left your home. Steve then keeps track of how many miles the group drives for the clean up, and adds that to everyone's starting mileage. Then he submits the total mileage driven to the USFS and they reimburse him. That's what pays for lunch and the dump fees. The USFS also supplies the garbage bags, and occasionally they send a dumpster.

Paid mileage? Wow that's cool.... I'll be driving about 100+ miles, I will have contributed enough mileage to pay for a couple of peoples sandwiches

They generally try to have one every month until snow comes again.

We go out to hodge road quite frequently and we always pick up everything we bring - including more that others have left behind in the area we were shooting.
Heres my idea - not specifically for hodge road but for all BLM and desert type shooting areas.
If we contacted the BLM or whatever goverment agency is in charge and asked them to supply a roll off dumpster we would fill it with trash, do you think they would go for it? I have access to a bobcat with a bucket and anybody else that has a piece of equipment could bring it out also, I dont think it would be that hard to make quite some improvment. I am not talking about picking up little shards of broken clay pigeons and every piece of brass but I think we could at least pick up the couches and BBQ's and other crap like that

Do you ever do this on a Saturday? That would be a lot better for me, and probably many others, as we wouldn't have to worry about getting home earlier than we would on a Saturday, because of work on Monday morning.

It ends pretty early (2pm).... Hit traffic, 2 hour drive, still should be home by about 5pm
