No paperwork for rifles

So looking at the wiki, it seems that there is no paperwork needed in CA for long rifles which is all I have. In the wiki though it also mentions that transfer of said rifles cannot be done from sibling to sibling, since there is no paperwork involved what does this mean? Can't the other sibling just say they bought it themselves?

Not trying to do any illegal, just trying to understand the logic of the situation, or am I just not understanding what "no paper" means?

The only no paper long gun transfers are Inherated, Curio and Relics, long guns over 50 years old, or between family members up and down the family line such as parent to child or grand parent or grand child. Not "sideways" like brother to brother. Every thing else needs to go through an FFL.

It doesn't matter what it appears you can get away with- if you're caught, it's a felony charge and the end of your ownership of firearms, voting, etc. Do it right and never need to worry.

How about tell them to "mind your own business"?

If a LEO is asking you that question, then you have other things to worry about at that point.

The burden of proof is on the state. If the state thinks that someone gave their brother a long gun, and not their parents, then it is up to the state to prove that the parents were not the one that gave them the long gun. It's really that simple. As blazeaglory pointed out, if LEO is asking you this, then you've got bigger problems and need to keep quiet and contact a lawyer.

No LEO is just going to walk up to you at the range and start asking how you got a long gun unless there is a bigger issue going on. If they think it's stolen, an assault weapon, whatever, how you got the thing is the least of your issues and probably not very high on their priority list.

Since no paperwork is involved on rifles and shotguns you could give a rifle to Dad and after he's tired of it, he can just hand it to your brother. No paperwork on VERTICAL relatives. Perfectly legal.

All this will change on Jan 1, 2014.

Yeah, I understood that part too, just thought it was weird why they would exclude siblings like that, did some lawmakers just not trust their siblings?!
