Bringing home rifle from FFL after AB 1527

I know this is a dumb question, but I can't find the answer.... and I have never brought a gun home from a gun store. Do I need to bring my rifle case and a gun lock?

I would. I also would bring a padlock for the rifle case just so that there are no issues from a clueless LEO if you should get pulled over and your non-consent to a search is ignored.

Needs to be encased or in a locked container.

The factory container the firearm comes in = encased.

Not if that "case" is cardboard. Should be in a lockable case.

        ETA:
Actually, I don't know. From the Calguns Wiki:
BEGINNING JANUARY 1, 2013 Long guns must be transported in a completely enclosing case when not in a vehicle; if the case is designed as a gun case, no lock required. If the case is NOT designed as a gun case, must also be locked.

My 870 came in a cardboard box which argueably is designed as a gun case.

Which means when your Remington 870 is in it's factory cardboard box it's encased.

AB 1527 exempts vehicles. You only need to worry about federal gun free school zones unless you plan on walking your gun home.

Encased in order to walk from gun store to vehicle and to walk from vehicle to home.
