Keeping a gun in house with felon

How locked up does a gun have to when there is a felon in the house?

Gunsafe should be fine as long as they don't have the combo or access to a key for it.
Lord, make my hand fast and accurate.
Let my aim be true and my hand faster
than those who would seek to destroy me.
Grant me victory over my foes and those who wish to do harm to me and mine.
Let not my last thought be 'If I only had my gun."
And Lord, if today is truly the day you call me home, let me die in an empty pile of brass.

I am asking for my friend. He has only has an SKS that he got from his dad. Right now its at my house. I have a cable lock that came with one of my guns.

Would it be ok to put the lock through the mag and receiver?

I know it says something like that they cant have access to it. If he's the felon and it just has a cable lock on it, if he's in possesion of it I'd say its a no go.

There is a wavier/form you have to sign in order to keep it in the house.

If it is in a locked case the "felon" still has access to it. If he were to pick up the case it would be felon in possession of a firearm even if its locked. Honestly the firearms should not be kept in the same structure as a convicted felon to be safe.

Are there any felonies which are exempt? For instance I'm talking about "white collar" felonies like grades-for-cash, fraud, computer crime, and other non-violent crimes.

                  (just curious)

First, it's really not your problem, it's the felon's. If the felon is still on parole, I would strongly advise him/her against going ANYWHERE that there are firearms present. Even if locked in a safe. It's not worth the risk. If the felon is no longer on parole, although the laws are the same, the odds are that a safe would be sufficent. Only a lock is a bad idea since, a lawyer could argue that the felon still has access to it. Furthermore, the felon could steal it and cut the lock off later. Even if you know that this wouldn't happen, a lawyer could argue that it might. Is the expense of prosecution really worth a SKS?
