that is a freaking far drive. If you went to RENO then to Barstow area, All in the name of shooting? or did you have other agenda as well.

The blm land was off 80 and then we took some weird roads that were off the beaten path. It was super cool!

There's a gosh awful lot of BLM land West of the Mississippi River. It's not just in Barstow.

Check out this map of Nevada.

See all that pale yellow color? Looks like the background color?

              That's BLM land.

See those tiny little white squares? That's privately owned land.

The majority of Nevada is BLM land. 48 million acres of BLM land out of 70.6 million acres in all of Nevada.

Looks like only about 15% of California is BLM land. Lot of that around Barstow.

Be careful. Washoe county is very restrictive on where you can shoot. You can get outside the county in 20 minutes, or be stuck in it for 6 hours depending on the route you take. Call the Sheriff and ask where you can shoot so the Sheriff doesn't have to come out and find you.

Here is a Washoe County Firearms map.

Here are a few places near Reno to shoot.

Derby Dam: You can go 80 East about 20 minutes out of sparks, get off on exit 36 (Derby Dam), come back over the freeway overpass and drive up into the dirt hill. You will know you are at the right spot once you see all the shells on the ground.

Washoe County Shooting range, Take 80 East, get off on Pyramid Highway exit, Follow that North until you hit the range, which will be on the left.

or down to the Carson Shooting Park,

but at Carson you will need to bring your own target stands and there is no range master there.

...or drive into Lyon or Storey County and be 300 feet from a building. I love Lyon county.

The federal government owns fully 1/2 of the state of Nevada. If it is not fenced or posted it is probably owned by you and me. Get far enough off the road to be legal and have at it.

I like shooting in the hills north of the touron area. Well head out and stay in lovelock the night before . Creepy little town but entertaining none the less.
The only contact I've ever had with blm Leo's have been positive. "Pack out what you pack in and don't bring dumb sh** to shoot at".
I'm presuming he meant things that the mentally challenged think are cool to shoot at, tv's, monitors, propane tanks. Oddly enough the things that seem to litter every chunk of California blm land...
