I have never ordered ammo from wideners, just reloading components. I was recently looking to purchase some 5.45x39 and was shocked by the price of shipping. $89 estimated shipping cost for usps priority. Has anyone purchased ammo from them and is this normal shipping costs? Or is it the sign of times of high gas prices.

You can't ship ammo via USPS, so I'm not sure where they are getting that quote from.

Actually, I don't think that's official policy or the law, it's just that no post office will do it. Maybe Wideners has a special arrangement.
But for OP, Priority is a very expensive way to send anything. Change shipping method.Comment

look at the charges more ,and you'll see a ~$40 UPS ground option.Jack
Do you want an AOW or C&R SBS/SBR in CA?

I've only ordered componets. My last order was 4 boxes of 100 30cal bullets.
I think shipping was $17 and change, but they had what I wanted and in stock. Was worth it to me. -gIf ever time should come, when vain and aspiring men shall possess the highest seats in Government, our country will stand in need of its experienced patriots to prevent its ruin.

It is codified in the CFR, aka Federal Law. So no, you cannot ship ammunition through the USPS.
