2nd I-80 freeway shooting this week

Damn, I'm on this freeway 4~6 times a day. This is just stupid...

(04-04) 01:41 PDT Pinole -- All lanes of westbound Interstate 80 were reopened in Pinole and Richmond early this morning following the fatal shooting of a motorist, authorities said.

Richmond police and CHP officers said a female was shot multiple times and killed and a male was shot and critically injured in the attack, which began around 9:15 p.m. on I-80 in Pinole. The ages of the victims were unknown.

Authorities, including Pinole police, investigated the crime scene along a stretch of highway from Pinole to Richmond. The interstate there was closed in the westbound direction for four hours.

Police said the shots were fired from another car at the victims as they were traveling westbound between Pinole Valley Road and Appian Way, in Pinole. Their car, a late-model blue Honda, continued to Richmond, where it crashed in the fast lane. The window on the driver's side had been shot out.

The car was carrying four to five people at the time but there were no other injuries, said CHP spokesman Sam Morgan.

"We're trying to determine whether this is road rage or whether the victims were known" to the assailants, Morgan said.

No one has been arrested. The critically injured victim was flown by CHP helicopter to John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek.

It appeared the suspect vehicle was abandoned at the scene.

The attack was the second shooting on the same stretch of I-80 in less than three days. On Tuesday morning, a westbound motorist was shot and seriously injured by another motorist who pulled alongside him in the westbound lanes of I-80 at Hilltop Drive in what police said was a targeted attack.

    Yikes
My Family and I were just in this area passing through 2 days prior to this event.

My son recently underwent a procedure wed afternoon at a San Fransisco Hospital.

They need to start issuing CCW to law abiding citizens in Contra Costa County. Not fair that the criminals are always carrying and the good guys can't. As far the Po Po, they are always a few minutes late.

Just wait when the Governor releases the prisoners, the freeways will be a war zone.

I was just talking to a friend yesterday about how much I am disliking the Bay Area these days due to the large number of homicides in SF/Oakland/Richmond/Vallejo/etc. that seemed to have skyrocketd in the past year or two; a dude was murdered in my 'hood recently! That *never* happens where I live. 4 guys were mugged at shotgun-point by 4 other guys within 10 blocks of my house, another it-never-happens but it did.

If it wasn't for the great job, I'd be gone.

I'm guessing that Hercules still has one of the lowest crime rates in west CoCo County..

Hercules PD won't allow their city to end up like Richmond. I always see punk kids getting harrassed by the Popo.

You have a warped sense of CCW responsibility if you think it good practice to shoot back while driving.

If it's going to save my life, hell ya I would shoot back. You just can't be irresponsible and shoot wildly.
Is it against the law to shoot from a moving car trying to protect yourself if you have a CCW?

Your car is a much more effective weapon against another car than your handgun will be.

Pinole & Hercules have mutual aid agreement backed by CoCo Sheriff & CHP. Hercules PD is also contracted to patrol Rodeo. From what I know, the Chief has always been a big supporter for advanced tactical training for his officers. All patrol cars have Wilson Tactical shotguns, ARs & MP5s.

The problems in Hercules tend to be from homeowners who rent out their homes to "losers". So if it is a problem house, the City charges a service call fee per incident. If it is not paid, the City puts a lien on the property. I don't know how legal it is but damn, it works. Within 2 months, the juvenile home across the street closed up shop & moved to Richmond.

The residents are also very proactive in policing their own street. My neighbors have keys to my house & i have theirs. We look after each others pets & properties when no one's home. There is a game warden up the street, a federal agent, a husband & wife Oakland/Hayward PD & a butt load of gun totting/loving Filipinos. If SHTF in our neighborhood, I feel sorry for anyone who tries to be stupid.

We are under the West CoCo school district. They bus the Richmond problem kids in to the Hercules high school. Remember the youtube video of the kids beating up a kid & robbing him in the school bathroom? Our past attempt to switch district to Rodeo district (north of Hwy 4) was voted down by the school board. We are trying to gather enough signatures to put it on the ballot so we'll see.

We're not perfect but we sure try hard to be. Who else dares to stand up to WalMart & say, Nope, you're not coming here. I'm sure we'll get a beating but someone's gotta stand up to them.
