Just picked up another rifle from them and all is just dandy. Between BSP, CWS and The Shootist I don't have any reason to look elsewhere for anything. Prices, customer service, etc., they got it all.

There hasn't been too much posted about The Shootist in Murrieta but a nicer bunch you'd never find. Patrick just called this morning to let me know that they just found me a Para-14 that I'd ordered a month ago. I'll be gettin my next SSA through them. www.theshootistguns.com if anyones interested.

The shootist has lost my business 2 times. I bought a hunting rifle from them about 2 years ago and they treated me like I was some kind of psycho because I was only 18. I was buying a Ruger m77 in .300 wsm for a bear hunting trip that my dad and I were going on. It was a freaking hunting rifle and they asked me all kind of stupid questions about what I was buying it for. It ticked me off. The next time I was in the market for a Ruger 10/22 and big five had them on sale at the time for a pretty good price. The shootist was asking 40 dollars more for the same thing and I told them that if they would come down 20 dollars on their price I would buy it from them instead of Big five because I said I would rather support a local shop. They wouldnt do it. Needless to say Big Five has got my business 3 times since then. They charge outrageous prices for transfers too.

EDIT: Found this in another thread and its exactly what im talking about. I forgot to mention my experience about asking them about their policy on OLL's. They came up with all kinds of crazy fud and basically said I am a criminal.

I've had mixed experiences with them.

First time: Maybe two, three years ago. Took my mom in to look at a shotgun for the house (I was living at home at the time). Extremely polite and helpful. Even offered my mom a cup of coffee.

Second time: About a year ago. I went in asking about the availability of a Bersa Thunder .380. Was told that it was a "Saturday Night Special" and then quoted $95 dollars to transfer one bought online. I walked out feeling like I had committed a crime.

Third and Final time: About 5 months ago. Wanted to get a buttcuff for my Mossberg. I took my roommate who wanted to look at a Baby Eagle. We waked in and I was waved in the general direction of the items. I bought my cuff, and a bore mop, and my roommate bought some shoot-n-see targets. As I walked out, I asked him what was wrong (something obviously was), and he said that he felt like, "A black man at a Klan rally in there."

Both times I had bad experiences, I was dressed in a polo and khaki shorts, so it's not like I was ringing any bells. I've heard similar stories from others, and I doubt I'll ever set foot in there again. I'm not to keen on being treated poorly. I gave them two shots after they were decent to my mom, but that's it.
