    Sig P226 conversion inquiry

    Hello,

I purchased a Sig P226 in a .357 sig configuration and I'm planning to buy a .40 CAL barrel. Does anyone know for sure if the .40 CAL barrel interchangeable with a .357 sig configuration?

    Thanks in advance

From .357 to .40 no problem. Get a decent conversion barrel so that the chances of having to fit it would be minimal. Mine is a Barsto barrel and they used to fit it for free except for shipping if you bought one of their barrels. BTW, I prefer the .357 over .40.

So is that to say you can't go from a 9mm to a .40 S&W or a .357 Sig? Just .40 S&W and .357 Sig can be converted?

40 to 357 is a relatively easy swap. 9mm uses different mags and while you can put 9mm in a .40/.357 mag it doesn't work the other way around. I think there would be breechface and extractor problems too.

9mm has a smaller outer diameter of the barrel.

A .40/.357 barrel won't fit in the hole in the front of the slide.

Sigs also use the same recoil springs for 40 and 357. 9mm spring is different.

Just order a new .40 barrel from SIG. Then you won't have to worry about fitting problems.

Just get the sig barrel and you are set. I bought a .40 and bought the Sig .357 barrel. Between the two calibers you only need a barrel change. Same mags, same springs, same everything except the barrel.

I didn't minded .357, it's the price of the ammo that concerns me. Thank you very much with the info. If I only knew someone that has a p226 in a .40 cal I would have tried it myself. I have a p226 in 9mm configuration and the barrel fit perfectly with my .357. Again, appreciate for the info.

Thank you for the info. I might consider waiting until anyone of my friends would have a .40 P226 and see if he would let me borrow his barrel.

I bought the CALX 226-40-BSS-10 conversion kit and now my 9mm runs 40. Its an entire new slide and barrel and mag. They suggest only doing it for a newer model or you may have a problem with fit. Then you can get a .357 barrel and have all 3 calibers. Cool thing is the kit comes with night sights.

Haven't been to the Sig Forum lately, but there have been instances with Sig barrel fitting problems
                              mentioned there.
