    Took 2 newbies shooting today

    Site for motivation - http://www.takeanewbieshooting.com/

I posted an open invite on my Facebook, with the motivation that I just want to educate someone about the actual functionality to hopefully de-mystify or even convince someone that the current laws and reasonings for them are utter crap.

Well, I didn't get a gun-control guy on the first shot, but I did get 2 newbies - my 2 cousins. They are both females and have never gone shooting before.

They came to my place and I gave them general guidance on how to operate a pistol as well as an AR15. Before we headed out we just talked about some of the laws that are around, and to tell them I might go to jail before the end of the year if some of the current laws get passed (just for kicks). Educated them on mag capacity limits - told them, complete newbies to press mag release, drop mag, reload mag, and pull the slide to lock n' load. Then I asked them "How long did that take you?" "about 5 seconds" "exactly"

Went to an indoor range in San Leandro and operated a few of my guns (my wife's G19, my sig 229 elite, and a GSG1911). Definitely very eye opening for them as they struggled with trigger finger, holding a steady platform, etc.

I showed them some of the things I have learned along the way and shot my G17 at 30... good thing I didn't suck too much, managed to put 4 dots dead center out of 10.

All in all, I encourage everyone to try this out and take a newbie shooting. After all, one more on neutral or for us is one less against us.

If that's 4 rounds out of 10 dead center at 30m that's some damned nice work.

I would register myself and help out, but I'm still trying to figure out some of CA's more asinine gun laws with regards to certain items in my collection. Maybe in 6 months or so when I'm positive nothing I have will get us all thrown in jail I'll volunteer myself.

Thank you for your good work!

I like your reasoning; even one more just neutral is an improvement.
        And nice web page!

If I may, a couple of suggestions: You might want to blot out the faces of other folk in the background of your pics, just for GP; and you might want to explain the shoulder-flashing pic for the potential new shooters.

Depending on person, they can charge you back for ammo used. Basically it's just a catalyst to bridge curiosity and reality together.

If it's a complete stranger, I would probably ask for reimbursement for ammo and range fees.

Ah, yes, me read good now.

And I meant web site, not just the page. I'm old and still trying to figger out these confounded thinking machines.

Still 5 stars for the thread!

A couple newbs want me to take them shooting. I said ok as long as you join the NRA first. They agreed and we are going to shoot some .22s.

Good job op! For some reason all of the girls I've taken shooting for the first time are excellent shots. I'd like to think it's the fine instruction they received.

                    Here's my story to share.

Took a co-worker and his 18 year-old son shooting in Nov. Co-worker had never handled a pistol or rifle. His son had just started to get into hunting fowl. Since the son had completed Hunter Ed, I was confident he would be safe at the range. I had my co-worker do a few chapters from a Hunter Ed online course to get familiar with long guns, pistols, and firearm safety. He completed the quizzes at the end of the chapters that I asked him to do and he got 100%. Both joined me at the range and after a quick refresher on safe handling of guns, we spent the next 3 hours shooting long guns and semi-auto pistols in a variety of calibers.

After the Connecticut shooting in Dec, my co-worker and I started talking about California gun laws and potential changes to the laws at both the state and federal levels. Three weeks ago, I asked the co-worker if he had thought about joining the NRA -- especially since a membership was now $10 less and over 8,000 people were joining everyday. Without hesitation, he said he'd join. Then I asked about his son and he said he'd get a membership for his son too. He gave me the fees in cash and I signed them both up online that evening. The bonus was I found a membership offer that included a choice of NRA gear -- so I paid an additional $5 for each membership and surprised them each with a small range bag that would accompany their new memberships.

I've done that a few times, but 'ammo is short. It'd be kinda lame to show up there and realize that everyone has to share a 'mag or something...

I don't always save the world, but when I do, it's in 24 hours or less...

I took a newbie out shooting today as well. She's 15 and never shot a gun before. I started her with a 10/22, then my 9mm, and finished the day with my ar-15. She really enjoyed it and wants to continue shooting again.
