    Angeles Shooting Range

Hello, has anyone been to the Angeles Shooting Range? its off the 210, near the 118, Sylmar area i guess. I pick up my first gun tomorrow, and was planning on making my way there to try it out but it looks like its going to be raining so i might wait till sunday, or ill try out an indoor range i know of.

just wondering what you guys think of the range, do they have a quick walk through for beginners, is it worth becoming a member, most importantly is it a safe range? any info will be appreciated.

I just went there a few days ago. It was a Wednesday night (Wednesday is the only day they're open until 9PM), so only the Shotgun/Pistol/Rifle line was open. There were places to set targert at 25yd, 50yd, and 100 yards. If you don't want to set a target, you can shoot at the plates at the 100yd line. I've been told that their rifle line has steel plates out to 600yards, and you can set up paper up to 300yards on (Mondays and Thursdays).

The staff (both in the office and the rangemasters) are friendly and helpful. There isn't a walk through for beginners, but I'm sure if you ask one of the rangemasters they'll be glad to help you. When you pay in the office, you're required to read the rules if it's your first time.

I felt safe while shooting there. The rangemasters make sure everyone is shooting safely and during the ceasefires, they walk by each table to make sure each firearm is unloaded before allowing you to go check out\change your target.

i dont have a rifle or shotgun yet, picking up my HK P2000 (9mm) tomorrow so im mostly interested in the handgun lanes. do they let you print out and bring your own targets, or do you have to buy them there?

oh yea, and what times are the busiest if you guys know, id like to go during the hours when theres less people there. im assuming weekdays are mostly dead then pick up after 5ish, but what about the weekends? is it usually busy all day sat and sun?

      thanks for the info.

Yeah, you can bring your own paper targers as long as they're not of a person (living or dead). Their handgun section isn't bad. They close at 4:30 on Mondays, 9PM on Wednesday, and 6PM all other days. When I was there Wednesday night, it was pretty busy.

By the way, if you're only going to shoot a handgun, you might want to check out Oak Tree Gun club (http://oaktreegunclub.com/shooting.html). Their pistol range has a lot of steel targets (even moving), and a timed falling target bay. They also have a seperate area if you want to shoot paper. They're open on Wed-Fri until 10PM, and 5PM on the weekends. I think their range fee is $15.

I'm gonna take a ride out to the Angeles tomorrow (Sun) if you don't want to get rained on today. I always set up at the far end of the rifle range because of the .50, not sure if any of the other SoCal .50's are gonna be there.

If you want to come over and try out a .50 or just BS, stop by.

hey thanks, that would be cool but...

so today i wake up and see that its raining as expected, then as the day goes by the sun comes out. so im excited because i get to go pick up my new gun at 2pm then drive over to the range to try it out. i go to the shop and give the guy my paperwork, hes gone for about 15 minutes. comes out with no box in his hands, says the delivery guy came by a few days ago but forgot to leave my gun...

so he gave me 100 rounds of American Eagle for free to make up for it and i have to wait till monday to pick it up, and its gonna rain till Wed maybe thurs. oh well

              I don't get this...

If you started your 10 days the gun should be kept there...
If you didn't start the 10 days, then you would have just have gotten the 10 day period starting today.

i guess i left some info out. i bought the gun at turners in Pasadena, but they had to transfer it from another store because they were out of them. so the gun came from the other store sometime during my 10 day wait, but the delivery guy never took it off the truck to bring into the store. seems sorta odd, but thats what they told me.

Weird, usually that's not allowed I thought, at least my FFL told me that it had to stay at that same spot the whole time.

                  I'd ask for more ammo!!

im not sure if its allowed or not, but would assume it is because they did it for me and the manager was right there. they got the serial number for the gun from the other store so they were able to start my 10 day wait the day i paid for it. i wouldnt mind more ammo, but considering i didnt have to ask for it (he just walked up and asked me which ammo i was gonna be buying and picked up 2 boxes and said they are free), i thought that was a nice gesture and figured id leave it at that.

I've been there quite a few times. The pros are that you can bring higher powered rifles, unlike Oaktree. The cons are that it really is not a fun experience.

Every time I've gone there is someone who works there harassing everyone about picking up their brass, now, I don't mind picking up my brass but these guys really get on your case about it. Saying stuff about how they can wait all day and just being overall obnoxious on the subject.

Oaktree, which is also around the same area(ish) as Angelas, is much nicer, they are $17 instead of $12(Angelas) but it's worth it.

I still go to Angelas occasionally but not for pistols, too many stops in shooting for brass pickup breaks.

i just got back from Angeles, i liked it. it was nice and quite ( probably because of the rain, and its a monday), and the guys never asked me to pick up my brass. they just swept it up as i was leaving, they did ask if i wanted to keep it though.
