Long term ammo storage ??

How should I prepare ammo for long term storage? Is it enough to seal it in vacuum bags like for the freezer, or do I need to add a dessicant or something?

Stored in ammo cans, it can last 60+ yrs.

Inside the house in an area that stays a constant temp and doesn't get direct sunlight. It will outlive you.

Are you burying it in your yard, or stacking it on a shelf in the basement/garage?

Is it hand loads or factory loads? Factory loaded ammunition is sealed, so as long as it's not in water or exposed to flame, it should last a good long time.

Just for giggles I'd bag it, and store it in ammo cans. Mark # rounds on the bags.

Another vote for cans. I have some 15+ yr old ammo that looks brand new. Wolf, stored in cardboard boxes inside a can. Just make sure to get some with good seals.

Great, thanks. I got some waterproof boxes from Cabelas so I will use them. Was planning on vacuum sealing first, but probably won't waste the time now.

Will just store inside. Not going to bury.

Just keep them away from moisture and temp fluctuations and you'll be fine. I have ammo that's 15 years old in my safe. I have a dehumidifier in there because you'll be surprised how much moisture builds up in those things.
