    Dick's sporting goods?

What's the reputation of Dick's? They're building a new one in Dublin.
Scheduled to open sometime in the Spring.

Did not know about the Dublin one...

Interesting. They sell a lot of firearms nationally, but I wonder what this bay area store will have.

I've never been to Dick's, but I heard they were dicks (regarding the AWB). Many people placed orders for guns and ammo prior to Sandy Hook, then after the shooting, Dick's not only stopped sales of firearms, they cancelled existing orders. That screwed a LOT of people. Not fair. A lot of people started to boycott them for that. But with the current demand for arms and ammo, I think people are just buying what they can, where they can.

Do you have a source for this? I did a quick search and didn't see any
        threads complaining about Dick's.

They cater to all types of sports including hunting and fishing. They have a little bit of everthing and not much of anything. My one and only experience the service was slow and the employees weren't real helpful.

For me they are a market of last resort and not destination retailer.

I noticed that they don't advertise anything to do with firearms or ammo in the weekend paper since Sandy Hook. I was there Friday and they had rifles/shotguns for sale and a couple of big cans of .45ACP available. I think that their prices are a little high.

Dick's has been owned by the Anti's.....hence they are on the Patriot Ban List.

I have no issue shopping at Dick s. Over the past 4 weeks I have bought 500 of 223 and 2625 of 22lr at MSRP.

Dicks won't ever get my business. Caved to the anti's...I don't need their ammo or other crap, I'll buy it online from supporting vendors.

The newer ones seems to be more customer friendly staff. The one in HB has a hunting/rifle section, not sure if they all do or not. Not my first choice for anything. My 2c.

Most of the sales people do not know a whole lot. Many of their rifles are less expensive versions but not all. It's a place to buy a rifle at a good price IF YOU KNOW what you want and the details of the rifle you are interested in before you enter the store.

My experience is that, in some instances, they buy de-featured products.

For instance, I wanted to buy a Savage Mark II G, which is the most inexpensive wood stocked version with the accu-trigger. They were the only one's within driving distance who had one in stock.

When I got to the store, after playing 1000 questions, I found out that the particular version they had in stock did not have an accu-trigger. That would have been a serious mistake for me as that was the key feature making me want that gun. Ruger does say, in fine print, on their web site that vendors may do custom buys which have different features from what is posted on their model descriptions. This may also be true for other manufacturers.

I ended up doing a special order to get what I wanted. Not sure when I'll get it.

Moral of the story for Dick's, if you do buy there, be doubly sure the model of interest has all the manufacturer advertised features.

The one nearest me had a bunch of clothes and nothing else. It's been awhile since I went there though.

How much ammo do I need? Enough to last me the rest of my life, and then lot more for later.

Half the time I go to the one in my town its harder to get someone to the gun counter for ammo than it is at the Walmart down the street, and they always seem like you're bothering them when you need something...ahh quality service!

The Dick's in salinas has rifles, shotguns and ammo. I wasn't impressed by the selection.
