Those old colts are terrible!

Ok I dont think so, but a few weeks back i was in a gun store near me and I overheard this guy talking about a new colt 1911.

The guy buying was obviously a new gun owner and the gun store employee was talking about how these new 1911's are precision instruments and they are far superior to the older models. Then he says "Those old colt's are only good for hammering in nails." Inside I'm like WHAT???!!

So yeah looks like all you with older model colts ought to use them as hammers now.

That's likely because he was selling a modern Colt at that point in time.

Go in there on any other day, ask to take a look at an old Colt they might have in the cabinet, and that same store employee will likely be saying that old Colts were made much better than the new Colts, and new Colts are all cheap aluminum and plastic, not good for much other than pounding in nails.

On any other given day, for the right customer, a Hi-Point is a much better firearm than anything Colt has ever made.

On any other given Saturday, for the right customer, a Jennings is a much better firearm than anything Hi-Point has ever made.

He has it backwards. Old Colts are much, much nicer than new ones. Take a 1950s Colt Government and set it beside a new one. No comparision. Set a 1930s Colt next to anything and prepare to be disappointed. The 1930s National Match Colt 1911s are the nicest ever made, hand crafted, fit, polished and blued by a true expert and craftsman.

There is a reason old Colt anything brings double the price of new. There is no comparison in craftsmanship, fit, finish, and overall quality between old Colts and new Colts.

I recently added to my collection a near mint 1965 blued 6" Python. It is literally a work of art~!

Yeah, Rich was a real expert in all aspects of guns. He even makes some of the experts here on Calguns look like amateur newbies by comparison, that's how expert he was.

New colts are extremely well put together guns and a lot of people over on the Colt forums have said they are even better then the old ones. With that said, there is still nothing like an old Colt.
