Just wondering if I have a KNS Spade Grips attached to my AR and took out the pistol grip. Can I do away with the bullet button and use high cap mags?

Regarding the KNS Spade Grips

The best advice would be to also make the firearm completely featureless, meaning no flash hider, or forward vertical grip either, and yes no grenade launcher.
There is a theory that has been mentioned plenty of times here though that since using that spade grip means you no longer have a stock, and without a stock it isn't a rifle since it isn't designed to be shouldered, that the entire AWB no longer applies at all against this kind of setup, assuming you didn't go pistol length barrel.
I don't believe that last part has been tested in court though, so I wouldn't go there unless I had big bucks stashed away and really liked to gamble. -
In order to be CA legal with detachable magazines:
1. It can not have a shoulder stock.
2. It can not have any restricted features.
3. Barrel length needs to be 16" or greater.
4. Overall length needs to be 26" or greater.sigpic

Any shoulder stock.
If it has a shoulder stock and a rifled barrel, then it meets CA's definition of a "rifle" and it must comply with CA's assault weapons laws for rifles.
If it does not have a shoulder stock, then it does not meet CA's definition of a "rifle" and it would then be CA legal to have detachable magazines and, it can be argued, that CA's assault weapons laws do not apply to it. However, because of the uncertainty of it, it is recommend that the firearm does not have any restricted assault weapon features.sigpic
