    gun safe for apartment?

How does one effectively lock up weapons in a secure safe when it's not bolted down. With limited space available in most apartments and an inability to bolt it down, any safe you might use would be just as easy to steal as a cable locked gun. So, what's the real option for renters?

I have the luxury of having access to a properly bolted gun safe for my non HD firearms (not in my apt) but if I didn't I don't see a practice way to secure my firearms from theft, aside from hiding them. Even with the bulk of my firearms tucked safely away in a friends safe my HD weapons are still susceptible to being stolen. Small gun safes can be easily carried away, larger unbolted safes can be carted out.

Bolt the smaller safe to a larger piece of furniture.

I bought the heaviest one I could find for my apt. They are gonna have to cut it open because it took me and a couple dudes a lot of pushing and heftin' to get it in there lol

if it's carpeted floors, are they REALLY going to notice a bolt hole or two through the carpet pile (to bolt it down) when you're done there, especially if you run a vacuum cleaner over it afterwards?

              That's a good point I hadn't thought about. Thanks.

Or you can pull the carpet up in a closet and just lay it back down when you move.

My apartment has concrete floors. Yeah, I'm not drilling any holes that might hit fire sprinkler water lines or electrical conduit in the apartment below.

Here you go. Spackle and paint when you move out. If you have it in the back corner of your closet there is limited space to use prying tools, even a Stack-On becomes secure to all but the most determined thief.

Drilling into my concrete floor was no problem for me. You do have to be mindful of post-tension slabs, though; if you strike one of those someone can get killed. As for electrical/plumbing work-unless you go crazy with the drill, you're almost guaranteed not to strike anything...

My thoughts exactly. PTS is bad news.

How can you tell if you have a post-tension slab? I'm renting a house and plan on bolting my safe to the concrete when it gets here. I'd talk to the owner but my safe is none of their business.
