It's my understanding that if they get their deliveries done, say, in 6 hours they get to go home early with 8 hours pay. Kind of a reward system for quick delivery and thus the reckless service. Gotta compete with FEDEX!

I try to avoid UPS at all costs - I've had more problems with them than all other carriers (USPS) included.

UPS has some of the WORST delivery procedures around. They often just leave items "near" the correct address.

They used to just leave items at my door when I was renting an apartment, where anyone could see it and steal it. They once left some computer parts worth over $700 at my front door. Another time, I'd specified signature required for a custom AR15 upper. When I checked the UPS website it showed "delivered" but I sure didn't have it. Turns out the lazy, lying POS UPS driver got lazy & then lost, so he left it outside the wrong apartment and forged my signature!

Once all the info came out, I never saw that POS driver on my route again.

Yeah its funny I had the opposite thing happen to me in Modesto. I'm just walking along and some ups guy has me sign for some ammo. I don't even need it but I'll keep it.

The UPS drivers for my area are now very careful about me. I run a below the radar business - you don't know I exist unless you've met me. I keep the garage door open 8 inches - and leave a pager by the front door with instructions.

So they know to slide it under - or if signature required - ring doorbell and page me if no answer. (I'm half deaf...)

Before that setup, my son and I were waiting for UPS one day - hanging out in the living room. (I'm a stay-at-home dad as well...so I'm home 95% of the time.)

My son ears perk up, and he says, "Dadda, someone at door!!!"

So I open the door and there's the UPS substitute driver doing the ghost - must have jumped 3 feet. In his hand, a note already filled out to be place on the door.

Me: "Push the doorbell button...."
Him: "I already did..."
Me: "No you didn't, push the button..."
Him: (Pushes the button....)
Doorbell: Ding Dong!
Me: "I thought so, I'll be calling your supervisor..."

Hasn't happened since...

Hate my ups driver also. Always drop off my stuff to my neighbor and input sign by "my last name" in the system. Driver just look at my package name and said it sign by me.

Teddy Baseball. You are a sorta cheap character, for someone who supposedly was a big leaguer. A Coke or Pepsi? The driver likes $20 bills. That's how you get good service.
I have the opposite problem. They won't leave my packages with anyone, and I am never here.
I have 8 neighbors that will and sign, and give it to me, with no problem. I always have to put a sign out "Leave the Damn Package with the Neighbors!!"

Unfortunatly UPS is notorious for leaving packages that require a signiture on doorsteps, in bushes, lobbed over peoples fences. I ordered an upper from a retailer and specifically asked for an adult signiture only to have the lazy arse driver not even ring my doorbell but leave it leaning against my door in full view of the scumbags in my neighborhood. Thankfully I have cats which are almost as good as an alarm and alerted me to the drive by delivery.

UPS attention to detail has vanished.

i took work off for a day that i had a large shipment of parts and ammo coming and sat here for the entire day waiting. i skipped lunch, didn't shower (because i didnt want to miss the knock at the door), and at 9pm the UPS man marked my order online as "customer not available" because he was running late on his route.

i was... furious. this was a friday and of course he waited till 9pm when the phones close so i couldn't call. i logged in online, told them to hold the package and of course it says it would take them an extra day to get that sorted out. i didn't end up getting it till tuesday...

You're not really "ruining below the radar" if you are pulling this weird crap with the UPS drivers. I'm sure they are all telling eachother as well as their friends of the weird guy who leaves his garage door partiality open with the goofy "instructions"

I routinely elect to work at home and when UPS delivers a package, the driver rings the door bell and by the time I get to the door (less than 30 seconds later), the driver is driving away, and the package is on the door mat. They have also left packages at our residence for other people who live on different streets. I have very little faith in UPS.
