Word most abused by Gun Writers "venerable"

Gun people aren't very smart. Most of their vocabulary is made up of one, two and three syllable words.

Would you care to clarify this very offensive blanket statement? I'm "gun people" and have a quite large vocabulary, thank you very much. I think perhaps you meant to indicate writers in gun magazines or something of that ilk?

(the amount of syllables in a word means nothing, a true wordsmith can convey the point with single syllable words constructed properly - and sometimes cleverly - without confusing the reader)

Oh I'm definitely a writer who believes in thrift. Drives me nuts when someone writes like a woman talks (are you going to make me explain that generalization, too, or can we accept it's a joke? ).

Aww, come on, go easy.. Don't you enjoy reading the same ads week after week, with those hand-rubbing, mouth-salivating deals on handguns guns that aren't CA listed or long arms that brazenly show detachable mags and pistol grips? How about swooning over the full page ads from Hunter's Lodge or Forrest, Inc. - both of which have terribly poor reputations that would put Botach to shame?

I actually enjoy SGN and look forward to getting each issue.. something to flip through before I hit the sack each night.

When Neil Knoxx passed away SGN really had nothing more to offer me other than the occassional milsurp article on the military cartridges of Albania or Uruguay and the occassional skank posing in surplus fatigues for her husbands company.

Gun Digest has much better listings, or rather people actually list guns in the classifieds unlike SGN where the classifieds are resevered for historical quotes.

Everytime I open a gun mag there is sure to be the word "venerable" used at least a dozen times. Use to just see the word in association with the 1911, or maybe Garand, but now everything is venerable.

My gun media pet-peeve is in gun & hunting television shows: in instructional or informational sequences when they are talking about shooting technique or value/history of a gun, starting every sentence with the word "Now..". You'd think the annoyance of it would be caught in editing and they would mention it to the guy. Todd Jarrett has got to be the worst offender & his southern twang emphasizes it. Just looking at his photo makes me hear him... Naauow... NAAUOW... naauow... Naauow.... I think he is saying "Naauow" in this photo!
