    Question regarding grandfathered assault weapons

Forgive me if this had already been discussed. I couldn't find any other threads. If a situation comes about restricting the future sale of AK and AR style rifles, but permits grandfathering of existing firearms like what happened before, what parts of an AK would be needed to count as the firearm?

It is my understanding that even a stripped AR lower could be grandfathered. Would this apply to an AK style rifle as well, needing only the receiver and allowing you to finish building the rifle at any time?

I would appreciate any input and realize that at this point everything is speculation but maybe someone is familiar with the law from the previous AWB and can chime in here.

Well the lower reciever is the only segment of the gun that is considered a gun. Everything else is a part. So ya, I think u can grandfather lowers

If this happens, expect to pay a registration fee for each receiver that you want to have 'grandfathered' in, and most likely expect that you can't sell or transfer the receiver once an AWB goes into affect.

      Hypothetically speaking, of course.

Next dumb question. Am I allowed to give these to my minor kids now? Or do they have to be 21?

OP cannot be answered until there is a bill. Check 2A - the day a bill is submitted there will be a dozen threads...

Yes, you can transfer 'long guns' to your children of any age. That changes to 18 or older Jan 1, 2014.

Frozen in 2015, it is falling out of date and I can no longer edit the content. But much of it is still good!
