    Remington Rifle?

I was looking at and did not get the model of what I assume is a new Remington rifle. It had a green/gray/black plastic stock with a triangle shaped barrel that appeared to be ported. It comes in 223 and 308. Any ideas and opinions on it? Thanks -g

It sounds like the new Remington 700 VTR. You can find out more about it on the Remington website. I am planning on getting one in a .204 Ruger.

As much as reminton would like you to believe it... REMOVING metal from the barrel can and will NEVER increase accuracy. <---That's a period btw.

Check the science behind it. Sure, the structure of a triangle is stronger than a circle, but not along its spine. The cylinder- uniterrupted- has Mr. Trangle beat.

I had the pleasure of breaking one in the other day for a guy who didn't have time himself. It had an Elite 3200 scope and I was using Federal 168g MatchKings> I wasn't real strict, but shot a few and lightly cleaned and it shot quite well. It printed a few 5/8 to 3/4 groups and could no doubt do better with handloads...Also the trigger was the new X Mark Pro and it was nice for a factory trigger and can be tuned easily...My assessment is that it is definitely an upgrade from the SPS ( the stock is a little better and the X Mark trigger and the barrel has an integral muzzle brake ) but it is not quite in the same league as the 700 R-5 which is simply amazing...All in all it is a pretty nice rifle on a proven action which can always be customized if you get the bug for some real accuracy! Perhaps the triangular shape of the barrel makes it stiffer...I don't really know???? I Liked It!!! 30-338

Yep, That's it a 700 VTR. Thanks 30-338 for answering my question on model.
CRT-guns, Have you shot the VRT or do you think it's just a bunk sales gimmic like the Hornady Leverlution bullets? -g

I don't think Remington is advertising the triangular barrel as being stiffer than a round barrel, but it does shave off a lot of weight and is almost as stiff (likely within a few percent of the standard bull barrel). Gunblast has a good review here http://www.gunblast.com/Remington-700VTR.htm

I've been looking at the VTR also. Reports are very good on accuracy. The stock leaves something to be desired as it's a little flimsy. But no biggie....easily changeable if need me. Good rifle for the price. I am considering one down the line.

I hefted one at SHOT noticed it's lighter weight and nicer trigger pull. About a pound lighter than a 700 Varminter SPS (according to the website, weight is7.5 lb.).
