    Amazon and gun safes.

Amazon is a pretty large part of my shopping life. I've been a PRIME subscriber for years and really enjoy saving shopping time having simple goods showing up at my door.

I've been shopping for a safe and found this: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...ls_o00_s00_i00 on Amazon with PRIME free shipping to my door.

This is a just a heads up, there are other safes that show up as PRIME for those that are members looking for a safe.

    FYI.

There was a news article recently about Amazon's free shipping. The authors set out to find the heaviest thing they could that would ship free. It ended up being a gun safe and sure enough it was shipped at no cost. They contacted the safe company who said it would cost hundreds to ship that safe. No doubt why they sell it through Amazon

I do love Amazon for that reason, sometimes the Prime offerings cost more, but it is still cheaper when shipping is factored in (most cases).

All our common family items (Cat/Dog food, paper towels, TP) are all on an Amazon subscription service. Every month, more comes to the door, no late night runs to Walmart.

I know this is an Amazon thread and not a gun safe thread but if anyone is looking for a safe, Costco currently has the BIGHORN 19ECB Safe for $569.99 shipped, good until 1/27 (while supplies last). I got in on their Cannon CS24 Safe for $549.99 deal a month ago and I paid exactly that, they didn't charge shipping nor tax, wish I waited for this deal though.

Just an FYI it doesn't get the two day shipping at least mine did not.

Another Amazon tip/trick - when I was shopping for my safe I put the dial version and the electronic keypad version in my cart, both around $480 if I remember correct. If you have items in your cart it keeps track if the price goes up or down - anyhow one day I notice the updated cart pricing the dial version of the safe dropped ~ $100 to $379 for some reason. Ordered it quick. This also works in the saved for later section of the cart. Just an FYI for things that are not urgent.

Amazon's free shipping really doesn't make sense sometimes. I bought a set of weights on clearance for under $20 and it was shipped free. The set was over 200 pounds. There is no way they made any money off of that.

I don't know what happened then, but we definitely were not charged tax.

I recently ordered a Winchester Ranger Deluxe. It arrived about two weeks later (about a week ago). It was damaged. the shipping investigator says he has seen this exact same thing before and that they are just so heavy to ship.

I opened an amazon claim and have yet to hear back from the seller "The Safe Place". It sat outside my front door because it was so heavy for several days until finally it was going to rain so I had it brought in. I'll probably keep it but in the end I paid for a damaged safe.

I am also a prime subscriber and spend tends of thousands of dollars with amazon each yer.

Amazon only recently started charging Cal sales tax (the wimps caved). I got a nice Cannon on sale through Amazon, no sales tax, free shipping. It was a pretty good deal.

Some dealers have their shipping fulfilled by Amazon, but are not located in California. In this instance you won't pay sales tax.

Please don't buy those safes from Costco, they're about a safe as locking your guns in your bathroom.
