A few fears ago I took a sig p6 to a shop that I used to like. He had a plain jane p6 in the case for $400 so we priced mine @ $450 because mine had brand new contrast night sights ($100) and Hogue Alumigrips ($150). Should be a fairly easy sell I thought. About a week later I went in to look for an AR scope and didn't see my sig in the consignment case. Or so I thought. They had taken my alumigrips off my gun and sold them to a guy who just had to have them for $80 just 2 days after I took the gun in. I was furious with the manager for taking what I considered to be the best selling points of my gun and then putting on stock p6 grips that were in ****tier condition than the ones I had replaced. Plus 60% of $80 netted me $48 for my troubles. I could have gotten $100 for them on ebay and kept 100% but I knew they would help the gun sell quicker. The shop owner wouldn't see things my way and insisted terms in my contract allowed such actions but in fact he never found such language on my paperwork. I ended up taking store credit and purchased a scope. But I'll never deal with them again!

As a consignment all of it is still your property until a sale is made as far as I'm concerned. Meaning if you changed your mind the gun goes back to you in the same condition/configuration it is brought in.Winning is half the battle. The other half? Why red and blue lasers of courseComment

name the shop or it never happenedComment

Seriously what shop charges 40% for a consigment?Comment

Wait. It's still your gun. He is supposed to sell it for you and take part of the profit not piece meal your gun. Absolutely not right or legal. That would be like me consigning my boat and the guy selling the. Motor and outdrive cause some customer needed them. I would of told them they need to dros the gun back to me in the same condition with the exact equipment as I brought it in with.
Yet another reason NOT to consign a gun. Or anything else for that matter.
I am selling my boat and you wouldn't believe the amount of dealers who want to help me sell it on consignment. Yeah I'll get right on giving them 20-25% of the sales price.Comment

That^
That gun (and grips) belongs to you and they had no right doing that without your consent. I would have had them replace the grips, else I'd have taken them to small claims.Comment

The reason it took me a few years to tell this online is simple.I wasn't really even online back then. And after acouple days I got over it. The store in question was Sierra Arms. I bought my first 1911 there in 2004. David Lake was running the place and he gave me a good deal on the Springer black and stainless target .45 and a year and a half later I needed some cash and went back and he paid me about 80% of original cost right on the spot.Great deal. Last week I put my Springer lightweight 1911 up for sale here on Calguns and it brought back memories of my last 1911 and how my first dealings with that shop was so good that I recommended it to all my friends and how my last deal there soured me so much that I won't return. The reason for my thread wasn't to try to start a boycott of Sierra Arms. For all I know, they could have new managers and I wouldn't want to cause trouble for them. I just wanted to know if anyone else had ever gotten screwed by a local shop?Comment

If ANYTHING! I gave a better image of the shop manager than he deserved.I spent 20 minutes arguing with him and got no where.I had to leave and cool off. I went back days later and suggested the store credit just to be done with it. The name should not matter as its been a few years and I am sure that if they treated the rest of their customers half as bad as they treated me, than they went under and someone else is running Sierra Arms.Comment
