    4473 forms

Does anyone know how long retailers and sellers are required to keep 4473 forms from the sale of firearms to members of the public? Would it not be prudent for these sellers to burn these forms as soon as legally possible? I for one hope they are being destroyed since they will be used by the federal government to determine gun ownership for future forced registration or bans.

Forever, or until they go out of business. Then the forms are turned over to the BATFE

      No.

They must be kept for a minimum of 20 years per 27 CFR 478.129 (b)

My local gun shop destroys them after 20 years and sometimes tell me when they destroyed some with my name on them

Any 4473's remaining when a dealer goes out of business are sent to the BATFE.

Are these federal laws? Are they uniform for all states?

Yes the 4473s can be destroyed after 20 years. But you have to send in your books and they go back to first day a FFL opens. And your info is matched up to the firearm you bought. They still can find out what you bought and when.
