    Tax on PPT?

I know when you do a face to face Privat party Transfer there is tax on the DROS amount but are you charged tax on the purchase price? I can't see how there could be but it IS the government and hey do try to get thier fingers in everywhere.

    Thanks

When we do PPT's we don't tax either the DROS fee nor the gun. It's up to the buyer to declare use tax.

PPT DROS is $35.00, no tax since it isn't a sale of merchandise.

          http://caag.state.ca.us/firearms/pubfaqs.htm#31 :

          31. Does sales tax apply to the DROS fees?
No. The DROS fees are not subject to sales tax. Questions regarding firearms transfer fees can be directed to the DOJ through this website or by calling (916) 263-4887. Questions regarding sales tax can be made to the California Board of Equalization at its website www.boe.ca.gov.
As far as sales tax on purchase price I don't believe there's even a legal basis for collecting it if the seller is an individual and not a "retailer".

Thought there were no taxes on used items (besides cars ) As when the item was purchased new the taxes were already paid on the item. Or am I off my rocker?

No tax on DROS and NO tax on the firearm.

i just checked my receipt for a purchase on saturday. only taxed on the firearm, not the dros. wondered why the final figure looked so odd.

If you got taxed on DROS, then you need to find another FFL.

I charge tax on DROS fees. I know its friggin nuts, but I have a letter from the CA Board of equalization that says I am to charge it. I keep it handy in case anyone wants to see it.

I dont charge any tax on any purchase prices on PPT.

You consider a DROS a service? I consider it being serviced
